Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger said Sunday that he supports issuing subpoenas to members of Congress about the Capital riot \u2014 including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.<\/p>\n

Kinzinger of Illinois is one of two Republicans picked by House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi to investigate the riots. <\/p>\n

\u201cI would support subpoenas to anyone that could shed light on [what happ<\/a>ened Jan 6]. If that\u2019s the leader [McCarthy], that\u2019s the leader,\u201d Kinzinger told ABC News<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf it\u2019s anyone that talked to the president that can provide us that information, I want to know what the president was doing every moment of that day after he said, \u2018I\u2019m going to walk with you to the Capitol,\u2019 \u201d added Kinzinger, an outspoken critic of former President Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anybody\u2019s scared of this investigation, I ask you one question: What are you afraid of?\u201d the rep said. \u201cI mean, either you\u2019re afraid of being discovered having some culpability in it or what? <\/p>\n

\u201cIf you think it wasn\u2019t a big deal, then you should allow this to go forward,\u201d he said of the controversial probe.<\/p>\n

\n

Kinzinger, asked if he intended to try to speak with Trump as part of the investigation, did not rule out the move but said it may ultimately not be necessary.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know. It depends where the facts lead,\u201d the congressman said. \u201cWe may not even have to talk to Donald Trump to get the information. There were tons of people around him. There were tons of people involved in the things that led up to Jan. 6.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously if you talk to the former president, that\u2019s going to have a whole new set of kind of like everything associated with it. So when I look at that, I\u2019m like \u2018maybe.\u2019 But I know we\u2019re going to get to the information,\u201d Kinzinger said. \u201cIf he has unique information, that\u2019s one thing. But I think there\u2019s a lot of people around him that knew some things.\u201d<\/p>\n

The other Republican on the panel investigating the deadly riot is Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wy.).<\/p>\n

The panel held its first hearing earlier this week, where four law-enforcement officers \u2014 including two Capitol Hill cops \u2014 testified.<\/p>\n

Moderate GOP Sen. Susan Collins on Sunday ripped Pelosi\u2019s \u201cpartisan\u201d committee tasked with investigating the riot, blaming her for handpicking GOP members rather than letting McCarthy choose them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI fought very hard to have an independent, bipartisan, non-partisan outside commission to look at all the events of that day, and I\u2019m very disappointed that it was not approved,\u201d Collins of Maine told CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it would have had far more credibility than Speaker Pelosi\u2019s partisan committee that she has set up,\u201d Collins said of the California Democrat.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
