Kathy Griffin has revealed she has lung cancer and will be undergoing surgery to have half of her left lung removed.<\/p>\n

The comedian announced the news<\/a> on social media<\/a> on Monday, August 2, writing on Twitter, \u201cI\u2019ve got to tell you guys something. I have cancer. I\u2019m about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I\u2019ve never smoked!\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that the doctors are \u201cvery optimistic\u201d as the cancer is stage one and contained to her left lung. \u201cHopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing,\u201d she explained. \u201cI should be up and running around as usual in a month or less. It\u2019s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I\u2019m gonna be just fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her latest post, Griffin stated that she is \u201cfully vaccinated\u201d against COVID-19. \u201cThe consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious,\u201d she noted. \u201cPlease stay up to date on your medical check ups. It\u2019ll save your life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Emmy winner will talk more about her diagnosis on ABC\u2019s Nightline<\/em> on Monday night. \u201cI was definitely in shock. She is also set to open up about her battles with mental health, pill addiction, a suicide attempt, and her newfound sobriety.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
