“#Fox host Laura Ingraham slams Sen. Bill Cassidy over infrastructure bill<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Fox News<\/a> host Laura Ingraham and Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) traded verbal blows on Ingraham\u2019s prime-time program Monday night over the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package currently being debated in the Senate.<\/p>\n

After \u201cThe Ingraham Angle\u201d host echoed small-government Republican complaints that the bill is a \u201cTrojan horse\u201d for massive Democratic Party spending projects, she asked Cassidy \u2014 one of the lead negotiators of the package \u2014 if he had read the 2,702-page bill.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy staff and I have read it totally,\u201d Cassidy responded before adding: \u201cAnd defending it, my gosh, why wouldn\u2019t you want this, as one of my colleagues said? <\/p>\n

\u201c$110 billion for broken-down bridges, to replace or to make \u2018em better, also to make \u2018em safer,\u201d the Louisianan added. \u201c$65 billion to bring broadband in areas that do not have it, creating jobs along the way. $16 billion for Army Corps of Engineers to address coastal restoration issues and other things that place Americans at risk of losing their homes and their businesses from floods. And by the way, did I mention it creates a heck of a lot of jobs?\u201d<\/p>\n

Democrats are hoping to pass a larger $3.5 trillion budget resolution through Congress without Republican support. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has insisted that if the smaller infrastructure bill passes the Senate, she will not bring it to a vote until the upper chamber also passes the budget resolution through the parliamentary maneuver of reconciliation.<\/p>\n

Cassidy drew Ingraham\u2019s ire when he suggested that passing the bipartisan bill would make it harder for Pelosi to force through the $3.5 trillion budget resolution. <\/p>\n

\u201cPelosi wants to link the two,\u201d he said. \u201cShe doesn\u2019t think she has the votes for that $3.5 trillion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSenator,\u201d Ingraham asked incredulously, \u201care you on this show tonight saying that Nancy Pelosi hasn\u2019t game<\/a>d out her votes?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe doesn\u2019t think she has the votes on the $3.5 trillion,\u201d Cassidy insisted. \u201cShe\u2019s hoping to fold these together so she can get it passed, and by the way \u2026 Republicans against this bill are trying to help Nancy Pelosi.\u201d<\/p>\n

At another point in the segment, Ingraham asked Cassidy: \u201cWhy not do what Pelosi did and say, \u2018Show us your hand first, let\u2019s see the full text of your reconciliation bill, everything that\u2019s in it\u2019 \u2026 let them show their hand. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut it got flipped, didn\u2019t it?\u201d the host asked. \u201cYou guys got played on this. You had to vote first, or agree first. They still haven\u2019t shown the text of their legislation, have they, sir?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ironic thing is, you are agreeing with the \u2018Squad\u2019 and Bernie [Sanders],\u201d said Cassidy, drawing a sarcastic, \u201cOh, yeah\u201d from Ingraham. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s amazing,\u201d he added. \u201cYou\u2019re agreeing with Pelosi \u2026 If we sink this bill, and you marry them together, it\u2019s [the budget resolution is] more likely to pass. That\u2019s just what simple logic tells you. I\u2019m not quite following \u2013\u201c<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t follow?\u201d Ingraham asked. \u201cSo you don\u2019t follow The Wall Street Journal<\/a>, National Review<\/a>, yours truly, any number of people online who have been writing about economics, like [commentator] Steve Moore, for like 35 years?\u201d<\/p>\n

After Cassidy repeated his insistence that passing the compromise bill would make it harder for Democrats to push more spending, Ingraham told him: \u201cI know you\u2019re talking loudly tonight because you\u2019re trying to be persuasive, but it\u2019s just not working. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they pass the $3.5 trillion, you going to come back on this show and say you were wrong?\u201d she then asked. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll come back on this show, but even though we make it less possible, if it still happ<\/a>ens somehow this is to blame,\u201d Cassidy shot back. \u201cThat logic is specious and you know that.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Ingraham thanked Cassidy for joining her, she told viewers: \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever heard Senator Cassidy talk so loudly to Democrats before, but I love the fact that he did that with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
