A Michigan cop was caught on camera punching an unarmed man in the face \u2014 and seemingly knocking him out cold.<\/p>\n

The unidentified Detroit officer was in a group of six officers marching toward a man standing in the middle of the street in the early hours Sunday when he suddenly hit him with a right cross, the video first shared on Reddit<\/a> shows.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou ain\u2019t got to do that, dog!\u201d someone shouted \u2014 as the punched man\u2019s body stiffened and he fell straight back onto the street.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh my Lord!\u201d someone shouted, as the officer who delivered the punch grabbed the fallen suspect and half picked him up, standing behind him so his seemingly unconscious body rested against his legs.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Black Lives Matter\u2019 and you gonna go do that, tho?\u201d someone in the angry crowd shouted at the officer, while someone else called the officer a \u201cho\u201d and \u201cthe black n\u2014a who hit him.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the man came to and started ranting, the officer moved his legs from supporting him and walked off, the footage shows.<\/p>\n

Others came to aide the punched man, who was wearing a Detroit Tigers shirt and app<\/a>eared to have a bloodied mouth.<\/p>\n

Other footage obtained by Fox 2 <\/a>showed the man caught up in a mass brawl in the area \u2014 and getting pushed over by another cop before he was punched.<\/p>\n

Officials said that the unidentified officer who threw the punch has been put on desk duty.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Second Deputy Chief Rudy Harper told the Detroit Free Press<\/a> that officers were trying to break up a fight and it appeared the man was \u201ctrying to escalate it and may have even assaulted a cop.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was not immediately clear if the man \u2014 who could face charges for what happened before he was hit \u2014 was examined by medical professionals after the punch, officials told the paper.<\/p>\n

The officer who threw the punch was put on desk duty as the department launched an investigation into the videos, officials said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have some serious concerns as to how that was handled,\u201d Detroit Interim Police Chief James White told Fox 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve come to expect our officers to deescalate situations. I did not see de-escalation there, I didn\u2019t see our training there,\u201d White said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there is a violation, we are going to hold the officers accountable and we are going to be transparent about it to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
