The upcoming fifth film will be the first that isn\u2019t creatively driven by <strong>Wes Craven<\/strong> and <strong>Kevin Williamson<\/strong>. The mantle has been passed to fans of the franchise. Enormously talented fans, granted, but not the original creators and the directors seem to be aware of this knife\u2019s edge they\u2019re walking on.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with uber <em>Scream<\/em> fansite <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hellosidney.com\/\">HelloSidney.com<\/a>, directors <strong>Matt Bettinelli-Olpin<\/strong> and <strong>Tyler Gillet<\/strong> and producer <strong>Chad Villela<\/strong>, collectively known as a creative group <strong>Radio Silence<\/strong>, delve deep into the challenges of making the 5th entry into a decades-spanning franchise.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Weight_of_Legacy\"><\/span>The Weight of Legacy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->There are a few hurdles to overcome when stepping into the rather large shoes of Wes Craven. The biggest thing they seem intent on getting out there is that they want to balance respect for the previous films with not being so focused on convoluted character drama so as to alienate newbies.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, they said there are a ton of Easter Eggs in the film, but they\u2019re designed so a <em>Scream<\/em> fan can watch it with their friend who isn\u2019t as familiar with the franchise and everybody has a good time.<\/p>\n<p>They also confirmed that the movie will be rated R (good) and that they\u2019re carrying on the tradition of <em>Scream<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> commenting on the horror landscape around them. When the original was made, the landscape was way different than it is today, and they confirmed that their entry will reflect that. A place and time where horror is, in large part, out of the shadows and solidly in the mainstream.<\/p>\n<p>Self-referential movies can go sideways real fast. Look at all the <em>Scream<\/em> rip-offs and copycats that tried and failed.<\/p>\n<p>The first <em>Scream<\/em> works so well because it ribs horror tropes and then shows you how you\u2019d fall into them in the real world. <strong>Jamie Kennedy<\/strong> watching Halloween and yelling out \u201cJamie, look behind you!\u201d as Ghostface is behind his very couch is a great example.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->The interview with the Radio Silence guys really gives me some hope that they\u2019re up for this job. I had a blast with <em><strong>Ready or Not<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0which, in a lot of ways, can be viewed as a test run for tackling the tone of a <em>Scream<\/em> film. <em>Ready or Not<\/em> is a bit silly and a little heightened, but when shit gets real, it gets real <em>fast<\/em>.
