“#’Jeopardy!’ Viewers React to Mike Richards ‘Permanent Host’ News<\/a><\/strong>”

Jeopardy!<\/em> fans are still coming to terms with the news that the show\u2019s executive producer Mike Richards is the front-runner to become the full-time host of the long-running CBS game<\/a> show.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s especially tough to swallow for those hoping Star Trek<\/em> actor LeVar Burton would get the gig. Burton, who guest-hosted last week, had been passionately campaigning to take the reins and had amassed quite a following of loyal supporters.<\/p>\n

Following Variety<\/em><\/a>\u2018s report that Sony Pictures is in \u201cadvanced negotiations\u201d with Richards to take over from the late great Alex Trebek, fans took to social media<\/a> to share their reactions, many of them shocked or disapp<\/a>ointed.<\/p>\n

\u201cYALL COULD HAVE A WHOLE ICONIC LEVAR BURTON BUT YOU PICKING CHAD MCWHITERSON FOR\u2026 WHAT???\u201d tweeted author Luvvie Ajayi Jones. Many agreed with Jones\u2019 assessment, with activist and writer Charlotte Clymer stating, \u201cLeVar Burton should be the next host of \u201cJeopardy!\u201d I can\u2019t believe we\u2019re even having this discussion. He\u2019s the obvious choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Burton might be the overwhelming fan favorite, there was plenty of support for other previous guest hosts, too, including The Big Bang Theory<\/em> star Mayim Bialik, former Jeopardy!<\/em> champion Buzzy Cohen, and current guest host David Faber.<\/p>\n

I LOVE LeVar and was rooting for him\u2013but I thought he was pretty bad in his audition. Thought Mayim was best, with Aaron Rodgers and David Faber close seconds. But Richards? Please. Meh.<\/p>\n

All these folks saying \u2018pick LeVar\u2019 or \u2018Alex woulda picked LeVar\u2019 \u2014 at least half, maybe more, rarely even watch the show. Sorry, LeVar came off like he was doing Shakespeare-in-the-Park all week.<\/p>\n

Although I feel Buzzy would have been the best choice, Mike will do a great job.<\/p>\n

Not everyone is opposed to Richards becoming the permanent host, however. \u201cI don\u2019t understand why everyone is so against Mike Richards as the new permanent host. While negotiations are said to be in advanced stages, an official decision has yet to be made regarding the new host. A Sony Pictures spokesperson told Variety<\/em> that talks are still ongoing with other potential candidates still in the race, though the word \u201cfrontrunner\u201d was used to describe Richards.<\/p>\n
