“#Jeffrey Wright Teases New ‘Deeply Satisfying’ MCU Stories<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is exploring new avenues in Disney+\u2019s forthcoming series<\/a> What If\u2026?. <\/em><\/p>\n

The animated project which sees many well-known favorites such as Loki<\/em>\u2018s Tom Hiddleston, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier<\/em>\u2018s Sebastian Stan, Black Panther<\/em>\u2018s Chadwick Boseman, and more reprise their roles through voice work is welcoming a new character to the mix: Westworld<\/em>\u2018s Jeffrey Wright is The Watcher, an observer who shares familiar stories with unfamiliar paths.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s of the world, but he\u2019s not of it,\u201d Wright tells TV Insider. \u201cHe\u2019s outside of it, and he has powers that are unique to him.\u201d For the actor who has app<\/a>eared in several hit films and shows over the years (he\u2019s poised to appear in DC\u2019s The Batman<\/em> alongside Robert Pattinson), \u201cit was an easy invitation to accept,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe opportunity to do this series and to play him through my voice was also attractive to me,\u201d Wright admits. \u201cI kind of look at it like a musician looks at a recording session. I get the chance to play the music of the script with my voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

His recognizable vocals paint a picture that is aided by the show\u2019s gorgeous animation which Wright reveals \u201chas a comic book quality to it.\u201d The imagery and voice work help weave a new set of stories that will have viewers see the MCU in a whole new way. \u201cThe stories that we\u2019re seeing now contradict what we\u2019ve seen in the past,\u201d the actor notes. \u201cSo he\u2019s reliable,\u201d he adds of his character The Watcher, \u201cbut his nature is entirely unreliable because we don\u2019t know what\u2019s coming next.<\/p>\n

Among some of the concepts explored in the show\u2019s first few episodes is the idea of what if Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) was the first Super Soldier? or what if T\u2019Challa (Boseman) was Star-Lord instead of Peter Quill? It\u2019s a concept that excites Wright who describes The Watcher as \u201can observer and a caretaker to the balance within the multiverse.\u201d<\/p>\n

The multiverse is a concept that will continue to evolve as Phase 4 of the MCU unfolds, especially now that it\u2019s been broken open following the finale of Loki<\/em>. The endless possibilities allow for a multitude of stories that What If..?<\/em> is illustrating.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think fans have already been writing their own What if\u2026? <\/em>narratives based on what they\u2019ve seen of the movies,\u201d says Wright. \u201cEverybody imagines various scenarios that veer away from what actually exists in the films. And so I think fans can expect a degree of satisfaction that some of those impulses will finally be brought to fruition through this series.\u201d<\/p>\n
