They\u2019re singing it over at <strong>Lionsgate<\/strong>,\u00a0where an adaptation of the <strong>Susan Collins<\/strong> novel of the same name is gathering steam. Collins, of course, is the author of the YA book <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> <em><strong>The Hunger Games<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/em>Three of the four books in that series became a franchise of four films starring\u00a0<strong>Jennifer Lawrence<\/strong>. The last book, <em><strong>Mockingjay<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0<\/em>published in 2010 \u2014 hit the big screen in two parts in 2014 and 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Collins went back to the well for a prequel set in the same post-apocalyptic world of Panem. Hollywood, no stranger itself to going back to the well, is following suit with a movie that will go into production in 2022.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Oh_Horn_of_Plenty_for_Us_All\"><\/span>Oh, Horn of Plenty for Us All<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->Sound the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/2muDLL6CsIk\">Horn of Plenty<\/a>\u00a0because\u00a0<em>The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes<\/em> is now on track to begin production in the first half of 2022.\u00a0Per <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/08\/hunger-games-prequel-ballad-songbirds-snakes-movie-production-start-in-first-half-of-2022-1234810116\/\">Deadline<\/a>, this latest update comes \u201cfrom Lionsgate motion picture group chairman\u00a0<strong>Joe Drake<\/strong>\u00a0during the company\u2019s quarterly earnings call with Wall Street analysts.\u201d According to him, the film is barrelling along in pre-production with a release date being eyed for \u201ceither late fiscal 2023 or early 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes<\/em> follows a de-aged Coriolanus Snow, the character that the white-bearded Donald Sutherland portrayed in the movies. The heroic young man eventually becomes the evil President Snow, which means that this is essentially a supervillain origin story, something we\u2019ve <em>never<\/em> seen in Hollywood before.<\/p>\n<p>I know, I know. \u201cJust report the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> without incisive commentary,\u201d you say. But what\u2019s the keyboard command on a Mac for \u201cdrips sarcasm\u201d? Never mind.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the *<em>extreme Donald Sutherland voice<\/em>* ineluctable film adaptation of <em>The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes<\/em> is in the works. One thing this adaptation does have going for it is that <strong>Michael Arndt<\/strong>, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of <em>Little Miss Sunshine<\/em> and <em>Toy Story 3<\/em>, is handling the writing chores. You might say we love his work a Lotso.<\/p>\n<p>We previously reported that <strong>Francis Lawrence<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0returning to direct\u00a0<em>The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes<\/em>. Francis\u00a0helmed all but the first <em>Hunger Games<\/em> movie and he also directed Jennifer in <em>Red Sparrow<\/em>. Here\u2019s a quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere\u2019s an audience that wants to come back. I believe the market\u2019s going to come back. \u2026 There\u2019s going to be a strong, robust platform for us to monetize our movies.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, there is a moviegoing market and, hopefully, it will come back when it\u2019s safe to do so. However, the idea of leveraging a surefire hit to get the audience for those young adult books and movies rushing back to theaters seems ill-timed given the uncertainty of current circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone\u2019s doing what they must to survive right now and that includes studio execs, who may just be trying to keep their head above water.
