Mike Richards \u2014 the leading candidate to become Alex Trebek\u2019s permanent replacement on \u201cJeopardy!\u201d \u2014 is facing public scrutiny once again for his decision to fire a model who became pregnant in 2010 while he served as co-executive producer on \u201cThe Price is Right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richards, 46, is reported to be in \u201cadvanced discussions\u201d for the position, becoming the app<\/a>arent network favorite following a laundry list of temporary guest co-hosts.<\/p>\n

Some of those filling in have been: Mayim Bialik, Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric, Bill Whitaker, Dr. Mehmet Oz, George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, Savannah Guthrie, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Aaron Rodgers and the show\u2019s winningest champion Ken Jennings. <\/p>\n

Fans had pinned Jennings as Trebek\u2019s likeliest successor after the popular host died in November of pancreatic cancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jeopardy fans were quick to criticize the replacement as word got out on Thursday, leading to a reexamination of the lawsuit against him, in which former model Brandi Cochran won more than $8.5 million in punitive damages from \u201cThe Price is Right\u201d after it was determined the show discriminated against her because of her pregnancy.<\/p>\n

Cochran said she was rejected by the game<\/a> show\u2019s producers when she tried to return from maternity leave in 2010, and filed a lawsuit against CBS and Fremantle Media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Scared of being fired, Cochran did not tell anyone that she was pregnant with twins. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cochran testified, Richards \u201cput his head in his hands,\u201d when she told him. The next day, Richards allegedly stormed up to her and said, \u201cTwins? Are you kidding? Are you serious?\u201d the outlet reports.<\/p>\n

At trial, Richards testified the show was relying upon fewer models and while Cochran was a \u201cgood model,\u201d she \u201cwould not take us to great,\u201d the Hollywood Reporter reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, a judge voided the verdict over bad jury instructions after Fremantle Media appealed the decision. The case was later settled outside of court for an undisclosed amount in 2016, according to the Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n

While Richards remained at \u201cThe Price is Right,\u201d it faced additional unsuccessful pregnancy discrimination claims beyond those made by Cochran, the Hollywood Reporter said.<\/p>\n

According to a survey of over 1,000 Jeopardy fans by OnePoll, over 23 percent of respondents said the 47-year-old Jennings was their favorite to take over the show. Richards came in second place with 14 percent of the vote. \u201cStar Trek\u201d actor LeVar Burton received 10 percent of the vote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sony declined to comment to The Post regarding a permanent \u201cJeopardy!\u201d host. However, the studio told Variety that it\u2019s in talks with \u201cseveral potential candidates\u201d but didn\u2019t disclose any further details.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Richards has yet to openly comment on claims he will be dubbed the official host of \u201cJeopardy!\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Variety, Richards has produced over 4,000 hours worth of game show television, including \u201cThe Price is Right,\u201d \u201cWho Wants to be a Millionaire?\u201d and \u201cLet\u2019s Make a Deal.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
