Gov. Andrew Cuomo is in an impossible position: Holed up at the Executive Mansion since state Attorney General<\/a> Tish James accused him of sexual harassment, how can he govern? Yet how can he conduct the state\u2019s business with impeachment nearing, his former allies urging him to resign and not one Democrat defending him?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s time to stop playing hide and creep. Cuomo needs to <\/em>step down.<\/p>\n

The gov\u2019s been basically AWOL since the release of James\u2019 report, which found his sexual harassment of 11 women broke state and federal law.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat matters to me at the end of the day is getting the most done I can for you,\u201d he said. \u201cI will not be distracted from that job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, he\u2019s been lounging poolside at the mansion, no doubt fantasizing about a zero-chance political comeback. Longtime Cuomo ally and state Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs spent hours begging the gov to resign. But, Jacobs told The Post, that\u2019s \u201cnot his mindset at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

How utterly out of touch: Impeachment is near-certain; the Assembly\u2019s Judiciary Committee told his lawyer its \u201cinvestigation is nearing completion.\u201d More than half of the Assembly\u2019s members have said they\u2019ll vote to begin proceedings. Once the Assembly delivers an impeachment to the Senate, Cuomo is out of office for the duration of the trial. He\u2019d be busy defending himself while state government ground to a halt \u2014 and at a critical moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no conceivable scenario or path where he can ride this out,\u201d state Sen. James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) told MSNBC<\/a>. \u201cI think everyone\u2019s hope is that he resigns, he steps down willingly and spares the state, spares the Democratic Party, from an ugly impeachment proceeding.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA guy who spends 11 hours having to testify about his sexual harassment and assault is not a guy who is focusing on fighting COVID or getting us federal aid or getting rent relief money to people who need it,\u201d Mayor Bill de Blasio blasted Thursday.<\/p>\n

Now imagine if, on top of all that, the handful of district attorneys probing possible criminal changes prepared to make indictments. Would any <\/em>state work get done?<\/p>\n

If Cuomo stays on, he\u2019ll prove beyond all doubt he cares only about himself and not New Yorkers struggling to recover from his poor handling of the pandemic.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
