“#Brec Bassinger on ‘DC’s Stargirl’ Season 2<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

She\u2019s got it in hand.<\/p>\n

Courtney Whitmore, aka Stargirl (Brec Bassinger), returns to wield her staff and fight for justice in Season 2 of \u201cDC\u2019s Stargirl,\u201d premiering Tuesday (Aug. 10) on The CW.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Season 1, they gave me the Cosmic Staff and I\u2019d be falling over my own feet. Because I had never used a Bo staff in my life,\u201d Brec Bassinger, 22, told The Post, referring to Stargirl\u2019s signature tool and weapon.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut then coming into Season 2, I was so much more confident with it. Now people, make fun of me on set because my staff is like my comfort blanket. Instantly when they give it to me, I feel this sense of ease.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Season 1 of the superhero series<\/a> followed high schooler Courtney as her family moved from California to Nebraska and she got acclimated to a new school. Unbeknownst to Courtney or her mom Barbara (Amy Smart), her new stepfather Pat (Luke Wilson) used to be a superhero sidekick and a member of the Justice Society of America (often referred to as the JSA). Season 1 saw Courtney discover her Cosmic Staff (\u201cit\u2019s like Thor\u2019s hammer,\u201d said Bassinger), assume the alter-ego of \u201cStargirl\u201d aided by Pat, and become the leader of the second incarnation of the JSA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I first met [Luke Wilson] I was so intimidated by him, because \u2018Legally Blonde\u2019 was one of my favorite movies growing up,\u201d Bassinger said. \u201cBut within the first week, that was gone, because he\u2019s so humble and such a giving actor. I feel very grateful that I\u2019m getting to work with a performer who\u2019s that established and [is] still an awesome human being.\u201d<\/p>\n

Season 2 follows Courtney as she struggles to balance her high school life with her superhero responsibilities with new threats arriving, including the villain Eclipso (Nick Taraby).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of the conversation in Season 2 is like, \u2018What\u2019s the difference between bad and evil?\u2019\u201d said Bassinger. \u201cAnd Eclipso is pure evil. He feeds on the darkness of humanity and finds people\u2019s insecurities. Even the fight scenes with him aren\u2019t average fight scenes. They\u2019re so much more psychological than [with] a lot of physical villains.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Season 2, Courtney also eagerly embraces her double life, Bassinger said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout Season 1, she\u2019s kind of still figuring out how to use the Cosmic Staff, and what her role is on the JSA. Coming into Season 2, she\u2019s so confident about being Stargirl and truly believes that it\u2019s her destiny.\u201d<\/p>\n

The show is a case of art imitating life, since Bassinger herself was going through a similar path of stepping up to an unexpected new role before gaining confidence, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, when I auditioned for \u2018Stargirl\u2019 I was in such a weird point in my career. I was coming off of a kids\u2019 network,\u201d she said, referring to several Nickelodeon shows \u00a0that she starred in, such as \u201cBella and the Bulldogs\u201d (2015-2016) and \u201cSchool of Rock\u201d (2016-2018).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI hadn\u2019t worked for a little bit, and I was like \u2018Maybe it ran its course.\u2019 I still loved acting and wanted to act, but I was in a weird transitional period. I was looking at colleges when I got the audition for \u2018Stargirl.\u2019 Within a couple of weeks, I signed a contract. It all happ<\/a>ened so fast. It was such an emotional roller coaster for me, going from \u2018Okay, is acting what I\u2019m supposed to do for the rest of my life or will I go to school?\u2019 to \u2018Wow, I\u2019m now going to be a TV superhero!\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of feel like Courtney, because she\u2019s so excited and proud of being \u2018Stargirl,\u2019\u00a0and that\u2019s how I am as Brec. I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m going to be Stargirl for the rest of my life!\u2019 I love it.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
