Pandemic journal: Cuo\u2019s Eldercide Was Worse<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although Gov. Cuomo\u2019s \u201csexual misconduct and egregious mishandling of COVID-19 are both heinous,\u201d it shouldn\u2019t be \u201ccontroversial to assert killing the elderly through incompetence\u201d is more \u201cdepraved,\u201d writes Robert Schmad at the Washington Examiner<\/a>. Yet the media<\/a> are \u201cflipping the moral weight of the two wrongs.\u201d New calls for Cuomo\u2019s resignation after the state attorney general<\/a>\u2019s report barely mention his nursing-home scandals. Still, at least he is facing \u201csome kind of reckoning.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the left: Chris Cuomo Must Go, Too<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York AG Letitia James released \u201ca bombshell report Tuesday detailing multiple instances of sexual harassment\u201d by Gov. Cuomo, yet, observes MSNBC columnist Laura Bassett<\/a>, James also notes that \u201cCNN anchor Chris Cuomo, the governor\u2019s brother, was part of a small team of advisers who helped him respond to the allegations.\u201d Chris even went \u201cso far as to draft a statement\u201d for Andrew in February. The governor \u201cshould resign immediately or be impeached,\u201d but his brother, too, \u201cshould resign from covering politics or be fired.\u201d After all, \u201cit\u2019s extremely inapp<\/a>ropriate and unethical for a journalist to advise and craft the statements of a politician, regardless of family relation.\u201d The two men have both \u201camassed massive power and influence, while betraying public trust.\u201d Both \u201cmust go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Media watch: Hiding Dems\u2019 Racist Roots<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dems claim \u201cthe GOP wants to whitewash American history\u201d by barring critical race theory from schools, but they refuse to acknowledge their party \u201cdid more than any other institution in American life to preserve\u201d slavery and \u201cenforce Jim Crow,\u201d observes RealClearInvestigations\u2019 Mark Hemingway<\/a>. Consider The New York Times\u2019 1619 Project. The project\u2019s essays, which have become part of some schools\u2019 curriculum, name the Democratic Party \u201conly three times, in passing,\u201d while the \u00adRepublican Party, \u201cthe political entity formed to fight slavery,\u201d is \u201cexcoriated as the 21st-century heir to 19th-century racist ideology.\u201d History lesson for the left: Democratic southern states \u201cspecifically criticized the anti-slavery policies of President Lincoln\u2019s Republican Party in their declarations of succession in the Civil War,\u201d and as one historian notes, the Democratic Party\u2019s \u201ccentral purpose in the second half of the 19th century was specifically to prevent civil-rights legislation from being implemented.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: The US Establishment vs. Hungary<\/strong><\/p>\n

The American Conservative\u2019s Rod Dreher confesses<\/a> that he \u201ccan\u2019t think of anything in ages that has revealed the biases and bigotries of the American establishment like the reaction to Tucker Carlson\u2019s current visit to Budapest.\u201d Hungary under Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n is the rare example of a country where conservatives have \u201csuccessfully fought against wokeness and other aspects of the liberal globalist agenda,\u201d not least the threat to sovereignty from the European Union. Yet \u201cAmerican commentators, who heretofore had not said much of anything about Hungary,\u201d are \u201cdiscovering, now that Tucker is here, that Hungary is a dictatorial hellhole that all right-thinking people must denounce. It is remarkable watching their denunciations of right-wing illiberalism in Hungary as I struggle to recall how and when they raised their voices against left-wing illiberalism conquering US institutions and transforming America into a country many of us struggle to recognize.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liberal: \u2018Maddening\u2019 Teacher-Union Haggling<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two reports last week confirmed what we already knew, Jonathan Chait reports at New York magazine<\/a>: The result of remote schooling was \u201ccatastrophic damage.\u201d Low-income and minority children suffered the most. And for what? \u201cThe awful thing is that 15 months of closed schools have brought with them hardly any public-health benefit.\u201d Worse, the teachers unions don\u2019t appear to be overly concerned with getting kids back in classrooms. \u201cThe mere possibility that some schools may be forced to haggle once again with the unions to reopen school in face of incontrovertible evidence of the need to do so is maddening enough. But the cherry on top of this sundae\u201d is that the unions \u201chave refused to support a vaccine mandate for teachers,\u201d which seems \u201ccompletely obvious from the standpoint of both public health and <\/em>public education.\u201d <\/p>\n
