Osama bin Laden was plotting to assassinate then-President Barack Obama when the terrorist leader was killed \u2014 but had no plans for Joe Biden because he deemed him \u201ctotally unprepared\u201d to lead the US, according to a new book.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the tenth anniversary of 9\/11 app<\/a>roached, bin Laden was eager to memorialize the occasion with another spectacular strike,\u201d national security analyst Peter Bergen wrote in \u201cThe Rise and Fall of Osama bin Laden<\/a>,\u201d according to an excerpt in the Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe told his lieutenants that he wanted \u2018effective operations whose impact, God willing, is bigger than that of 9\/11,’\u201d wrote Bergen, based largely on a treasure-trove of documents<\/a> found in the terrorist\u2019s hideout.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe explained that killing President Barack Obama was a high priority, but he also had General<\/a> David Petraeus, at that time the US commander in Afghanistan, in his sights,\u201d Bergen wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cBin Laden told his team not to bother with plots against Vice President Joe Biden, whom he considered \u2018totally unprepared\u2019 for the post of president,\u201d the book claimed.<\/p>\n

Bergen did not elaborate on why the jihadist felt that way about Biden, who would, of course, go on to become president less than a decade after bin Laden\u2019s death at the hands of Navy SEALS. Biden was reportedly against the raid that killed the terror chief.<\/p>\n

The al Qaeda coward\u2019s desire for \u201canother spectacular strike\u201d was largely because he felt \u201cagitated\u201d that he was being forgotten, according to the book published Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHistory seemed to be passing him by,\u201d Bergen wrote, with his other plots having \u201cfizzled\u201d and attention focused on the Arab Spring rather than his ongoing calls for jihad.<\/p>\n

Bin Laden was also \u201cacutely conscious\u201d that allied terror groups \u201chad killed many thousands of Muslim civilians,\u201d which \u201cundercut the notion that al Qaeda was fighting a holy war on behalf of all Muslims.\u201d<\/p>\n

He even considered a name change as he sought \u201ca kinder, gentler al Qaeda,\u201d Bergen wrote.<\/p>\n

That change \u2014 along with the planned attack on the US \u2014 never came to fruition as bin Laden was killed in the US raid on his secret hideaway in Pakistan on May 2, 2011.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the tenth anniversary of 9\/11 approached, his overriding goal was to carry out another spectacular terrorist attack against the US,\u201d Bergen wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe died knowing that he had failed.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
