JPMorgan said it once again will require all employees, vaccinated or not, to wear masks at its offices nationwide as the spread of the Delta variant upends companies\u2019 plans to return to normal routines. <\/p>\n

The strict order was sent to all US employees in a Friday memo as Wall Street firms scramble to adapt to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s changing guidance that encourages everyone \u2013 even those who are fully vaccinated \u2013 to wear masks indoors to combat the virus.<\/p>\n

The bank \u2014 which called most of its staff back to the office in July \u2014 said fully vaccinated employees must wear masks in common areas including hallways, elevators, and lobbies as they walk through the building, according to an internal memo reviewed by The Post.<\/p>\n

Vaccinated employees will be able to attend larger gatherings of 25 employees or more, whereas unvaccinated employees will not. Unvaccinated employees will also have to get daily health checks and get COVID tested twice a week. Vaccinated employees are encouraged but not required to get tested for coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The guidance will app<\/a>ly to everyone \u2013 even employees in low-risk areas of the country. <\/p>\n

\u201cGiven that the CDC has stated more than 80 percent of counties across the US have substantial or high community transmission rates, we will follow this guidance nationally for the time being,\u201d the memo said.<\/p>\n

Companies including Amazon, BlackRock, and Wells Fargo all announced this week they will delay plans for employees to return to the office. Other companies like Tyson Foods, as well as New York real estate giants Durst and Related, have said they will fire people who don\u2019t get the vaccine.<\/p>\n

Indoor mask mandates are an outcome some Wall Street chieftains \u2014 from JPMorgan\u2019s Jamie Dimon to Goldman Sachs\u2019 David Solomon \u2014have been dreading as they push for a return to the office. Some privately gripe that masks defeat the purpose of working together in person.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou might as well just have people work from home and do zoom calls,\u201d Brian Finn of FIN Capital told The Post. \u201cIt\u2019s more intimate being on a Zoom call than talking to someone through a mask.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other financiers are fed up with anti-vaxxers and argue companies should mandate vaccines and forget the masks. \u201cWe have to wear a mask because people who believe in voodoo aren\u2019t getting vaccinated?\u201d one kvetched.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, other banks will likely follow JPMorgan\u2019s example and mandate masks as well, predicts Kathryn, Wylde, president of Partnership for New York. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think everyone will be making the same decision until we have enough people vaccinated,\u201d Wylde said. \u201cThe downside is that mandating masks will discourage a return to the office. But I don\u2019t think employers will have a choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some employers \u2014 even those who aren\u2019t crazy about the CDC update \u2014 will likely change their policy partly as a way to protect themselves from possible lawsuits.<\/p>\n

\u201cCompanies have to follow the guidelines even if they don\u2019t agree with it,\u201d Wylde says. \u201cThere\u2019s no liability protection for employers that don\u2019t follow CDC guidelines.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goldman Sachs ordered the vast majority of its workers to return to its Hudson River headquarters back in June. JPMorgan implemented a return-to-work schedule for its workers last month.<\/p>\n

Morgan Stanley\u2019s hard-charging chief executive James Gorman, meanwhile, has told staffers that if they don\u2019t return to the office by Labor Day, they could face a pay cut.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you can go into a restaurant in New York City, you can come into the office,\u201d Gorman famously declared last month.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
