House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expressing confidence in Democrats\u2019 ability to retain the majority in 2022 \u2014 despite the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee\u200b\u200b warning members that they are falling behind in the polls.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very confident that we will win the House,\u201d Pelosi said at a press conference on Friday. \u201cI always run from behind.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never run from the best-case scenario, there are several scenarios here, that was one of them, and I think that\u2019s a safe place to run from,\u201d she insisted.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The California Democrat\u2019s comments come in the wake of a Politico report<\/a> that DCCC Chair Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of New York cautioned that Democrats need to adjust their strategy to retain swing voters if they want to hold the majority in the lower chamber.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to Politico, polling showed candidates trailing by six points in swing districts.<\/p>\n

Pelosi currently holds a three-seat majority in the lower chamber.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Republicans have remained optimistic about\u00a0 their odds of flipping back the House, with members noting that historically the minority party picks up seats while the opposite party holds both chambers and the White House. <\/p>\n

Republicans may also have an edge with redistricting, with traditionally red states expected to pick up districts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said earlier this year he would \u201cbet my house\u201d that Republicans would win back the chamber while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference.\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
