It smells horrible. The back is open. There are flies,\u201d one long-time local resident fumed. \u201cThe bags just pile up into the sidewalk. Mango for NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Eddie Lew, a West Village resident since 1969, also said parkgoers could be disrespectful throwing trash on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s annoying and if you tell them to stop, they just don\u2019t care,\u201d Lew said.<\/p>\n<p>The park has been the focus of resident complaints for months with the northwest corner known as a \u201cdrug den\u201d with open heroin and crack use. It said Washington Square Park was cleaned throughout the day with a morning crew arriving at 7 a.m. and an evening crew is onsite until 10:30 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the department said the trash bags collected by the night crew are not loaded into the \u201cpacker truck\u201d until the morning, before the vehicle leaves at 7 a.m. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe empathize with passersby and will make a concerted effort to wash out the packer more frequently to minimize any odor,\u201d a department spokeswoman said.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
