{"id":318081,"date":"2021-08-07T18:18:29","date_gmt":"2021-08-07T15:18:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/californias-dixie-fire-explodes-to-area-bigger-than-nyc\/"},"modified":"2021-08-07T18:18:29","modified_gmt":"2021-08-07T15:18:29","slug":"californias-dixie-fire-explodes-to-area-bigger-than-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/californias-dixie-fire-explodes-to-area-bigger-than-nyc\/","title":{"rendered":"#California&#8217;s Dixie Fire explodes to area bigger than NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#California&#8217;s Dixie Fire explodes to area bigger than NYC<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A \u201cperfect storm\u201d of conditions allowed the California wildfire that destroyed a Gold Rush town this week to explode, scorching 100,000 more acres in the past day, after it was predicted to slow down Friday. <\/p>\n<p>The Dixie Fire is now the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WeathermanAdam\/status\/1423653546894020617\">third largest wildfire<\/a> ever in the state\u2019s history, engulfing 679 square miles \u2014 an area larger than New York City \u2014 and is threatening nearly 14,000 buildings across four counties, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-08-06\/dixie-fire-leaps-another-40-000-acres\">The Los Angeles Times reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>At least 8 people are missing, including five from Greenville, the community of about 1,000 that was incinerated on Wednesday evening. No injuries or deaths have been reported, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-science-fires-environment-and-nature-california-5015dcf1cd101fc6131d1b33ce88e1df\">The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More than 5,000 fire personnel are fighting the inferno and at least 31,000 residents were ordered to evacuate.<\/p>\n<p>CalFire, the state\u2019s firefighting agency, said the Dixie Fire, named for the road where it started on July 13, was just 21 percent contained early Saturday, down from 35 percent earlier in the week, the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.redding.com\/story\/news\/2021\/08\/06\/dixie-fire-updates-361-000-acre-greenville-avoids-chester-plumas\/5506741001\/\">Redding Record Searchlight reported<\/a>. Mitch Matlow, spokesperson for the Dixie Fire, told the Times. \u201cIt\u2019s the heat. It\u2019s the dry fuels. It\u2019s the drought. It\u2019s the wind we saw yesterday. It\u2019s the slope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With vegetation so dry, an ember colliding with it at times \u201cwas almost guaranteed to ignite and start another spot fire,\u201d said Rick Carhart, another spokesperson for the fire.<\/p>\n<p>The fire is one of a dozen scorching California right now, and one of 107 active large fires burning more than 2 million acres across 14 states, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
