Thomas passed away in his sleep on August 7; he was 70 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas, or \u201cDee Tee,\u201d as he was also known, joined brothers Robert \u201cKool\u201d Bell and Ronald Bell to form the funk band in 1964 while in high school with them. Over the course of his nearly-60-year career, Thomas played on every Kool &amp; the Gang studio album, including their 25th album <em>Perfect Union<\/em>, which is out August 20, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA huge personality while also an extremely private person, Dennis was the alto saxophone player, flutist, percussionist as well as\u00a0master of ceremonies at the band\u2019s shows,\u201d wrote the rest of the band. \u201cDennis\u2019 prologue featured on the groups 1971 hit, \u2018Who\u2019s\u00a0Gonna\u00a0Take the Weight\u2019 is legendary and an example of his showmanship. Dee Tee\u00a0was the group\u2019s wardrobe stylist who made sure they always looked fresh.
