Former President Donald Trump said that if not for his COVID-19 vaccine effort, Operation Warp Speed, 100 million people might have died from the bug, saying he\u2019s \u201cvery proud\u201d of his efforts to get Americans jabbed. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think if we didn\u2019t come up during the Trump administration with the vaccine, you could have 100 million people dead, just like you had in 1917,\u201d Trump said in an interview on Fox News<\/a> that aired Saturday night. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou take the Spanish Flu, 100 million people, up to 100 million people, died. I think we\u2019d be in that territory.\u201d<\/p>\n

More than 616,000 United States residents have died from COVID-19, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker<\/a>. The country\u2019s population is 332,601,658, according to the Census Bureau. <\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s administration purchased\u00a0200 million doses<\/a>\u00a0of Pfizer\u2019s vaccine and\u00a0200 million doses<\/a>\u00a0of the Moderna shot. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe vaccines turn out to be a tremendous thing,\u201d he said in the interview with Dan Bongino. \u201cIt\u2019s something I\u2019m very proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Trump also said he doesn\u2019t favor mandatory COVID-19 jabs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really believe in somebody\u2019s choice, somebody\u2019s freedom,\u201d said the former president. \u201cI\u2019m a big fan of our freedoms, and people have to make that choice for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the app<\/a>earance, the former commander-in-chief also stressed the importance of in-person learning for students, warning that children losing time in classrooms since March 2020 will \u201cscar\u201d them. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, it\u2019s turned out computers are wonderful and all of that,\u201d he said on Fox News. \u201cBut one thing we\u2019ve learned through college and school, undergraduate, everything, is that being in the school is much better than looking at a computer screen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe schools have to open. These young people are losing a big part of their life and they\u2019re not going to recover from it,\u201d he added. \u201cWhat they\u2019re going through social<\/a>ly, I mean, they are not dealing with people. \u2026 It\u2019s going to leave a scar on their lives. It\u2019s going to leave a psychological scar.\u201d\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
