“#Schumer wags finger at GOP senators delaying infrastructure bill<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday wagged his finger at Republicans who he says aren\u2019t moving fast enough on app<\/a>roving the $1.2 trillion infrastructure spending plan. <\/p>\n

\u201cI said yesterday, \u2018We can do this the easy way or the hard way.\u2019 Yesterday, it appeared that some Republicans would like to do it the hard way,\u201d Schumer (D-New York) said on the Senate floor during a rare Sunday session.<\/p>\n

His comments came after Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) said Saturday that he wouldn\u2019t \u201cfast-track\u201d the bill before the standard 30 hours of debate on it was up. That decision, if not reversed, would delay the final vote on the package until Monday or Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Schumer said that while he wants to push along the spending package for roads, bridges and transit more quickly, he needs senators on the other side of the aisle to \u201ccooperate.\u201d Still, if some holdouts don\u2019t comply, the body will soon pass the bill, anyway, he said. <\/p>\n

On Saturday, the Senate gave the green light to a measure ending debate on the plan \u2014 countering Republican efforts to filibuster the proposed infrastructure legislation. Eighteen Republicans voted with all Senate Democrats to move the measure forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cRepublicans, even the ones who don\u2019t want to support the bill, are very interested in working on the legislation, and that\u2019s what they\u2019re doing,\u201d an insider previously told The Post. \u201cA lot of Republicans who didn\u2019t vote for this bill will be touting the things that it does in their own local media<\/a> markets.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bill then headed to an amendment process \u2014 which Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said is needed to upgrade the infrastructure expenditures. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many outstanding amendments that are important that would improve the legislation, and deserve votes before the Senate is asked to vote on final passage of the bill,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Schumer said Sunday, \u201cDemocrats are ready and willing to vote on additional amendments to the bill before moving to final passage.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce again, that will require the cooperation of our Republican colleagues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope they will cooperate so that we can move more quickly. Otherwise, we\u2019ll proceed by the book and finish the bill.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn any case, we\u2019ll keep proceeding until we get this bill done,\u201d Schumer added. <\/p>\n

Hagerty on Saturday had said, \u201cI\u2019m not trying to expedite this process whatsoever,\u201d according to Roll Call<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not the one holding any of the amendments up. \u2026 [Republicans] are free to start under normal order,\u201d the GOPer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a normal process in place right here. There\u2019s no purpose in my view to allow an acceleration of that given what has happened here.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
