PHILADELPHIA \u2014 Javier Baez\u2019s departure from Sunday\u2019s game<\/a> was hardly a positive development for a Mets team that already has one former All-Star shortstop on the injured list.<\/p>\n

But there was at least a measure of optimism from manager Luis Rojas following the Mets\u2019 3-0 loss to the Phillies that Baez\u2019s left hip tightness isn\u2019t serious.<\/p>\n

Baez was in visible discomfort in the fifth inning on a swing in which he hit a grounder to the infield. Already, the Mets have Francisco Lindor on the IL with a strained right oblique.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point [the concern] is not as high as it was when it happ<\/a>ened in-game,\u201d Rojas said. \u201cWhen I saw [Baez] not moving out of the box, for me it was concerning. I thought it was an oblique, it looked to me similar as it looked with Lindor in Pittsburgh. \u2026 Right now, it\u2019s left hip tightness, and we\u2019re more optimistic about what it was, what took him out of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baez will receive treatment during Monday\u2019s day off and be evaluated before the Mets play the Nationals a day later. Jonathan Villar shifted from third base to shortstop for the final three innings. The Mets lost another shortstop option, Luis Guillorme, to the IL with a strained hamstring earlier in the week.<\/p>\n

Jose Martinez began a rehab assignment for Single-A St. Lucie, going 0-for-2 as the right fielder. Martinez, a first baseman and outfielder, has been on the injured list since spring training, when he underwent knee surgery for a torn meniscus.<\/p>\n

The Mets view Martinez as a right-handed bat who could help in the lineup or off the bench.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be nice to have that bat soon, especially against lefties,\u201d Rojas said. \u201cWe have struggled against lefties. We want to improve that. To have that right-handed bat to hit well against lefties like he has historically it will be nice.\u201d<\/p>\n
