Eminem &amp; EPMD (Official Audio)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yDSCNs77l28?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em>HipHopDX,\u00a0<\/em>Parish talked about how the collaboration came to fruition and how the first \u201cEPMD\u201d track on <em>King\u2019s Disease<\/em>\u00a0essentially led to the remix.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was Hip Hop doing a full 360 and heading back to the golden era,\u201d Parish tells <em>DX<\/em>. \u201cWith Nas, the connection with my grandfather being from Queens and Nas being from Queens, I used to be \u2014 and still am \u2014 a big fan of Main Source, the original foundation where Nas actually started.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Nas paid homage to EPMD on the first \u2018EPMD,\u2019 it was only right for Erick and I to get on the track and show love as well. font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal; line-height:17px; text-decoration:none;\">A post shared by Parish Smith *EPMD (@pmd_mic_doc)<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>As Parish explains, he and Erick hit the studio, turned on the mics and \u201ccaught that wave that\u2019s been missing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore you know it, it was like \u2018EPMD\u2019s back in business\/I visualize what it is and what it isn\u2019t,&#8217;\u201d he raps in reference to the track. \u201cSo it was like, \u2018Yo, to the bat phone, to the bat phone [laughs].&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Parish admits they didn\u2019t know Eminem was going to be on the song until a week before it dropped, adding they kept it \u201ctight-lipped.\u201d Overall, he thought the song brought the best out of all four MCs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you get on a track like that with artists like EPMD and Nas, it goes back to like an MC\u2019s favorite MC \u2014 you step it up,\u201d he explains. \u201cI would say in comparison to K-Solo on \u2018Knick Knack Patty Wack\u2019 on EPMD\u2019s <em>Unfinished Business.<\/em> We came in regular mode, we was doing what we do. At the end, K-Solo came in representing the true essence of what Hip Hop is all about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe not only rocked his regular bars like he was supposed to, he kept going when the beat went off and that\u2019s what made that song so dope. It was more about expression, how you felt and getting your point across. It was brought to our attention we stopped working simply and started watching. Next thing you know, it got out of control. The employees of the year, yeah, we\u2019re back to work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe state of the world and the times we\u2019re in, they\u2019re making it very clear, the old world is gone. People are trying to rebuild, trying to get their companies \u2014 whether it\u2019s restaurants or sports, whatever the case may be \u2014 and music always ran parallel to that. Before everything got shut down, it was a different time out there and a different type of energy. Now people want to hear more serious music they can relate to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parish is blown away artists who looked up to EPMD coming up are \u201cgiving them their flowers\u201d while they\u2019re still alive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s no different than mending the bridge through the generations of Hip Hop,\u201d he concludes. \u201cWe would pay homage to Run-DMC when we started out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd remember, rap is something you do, Hip Hop is something you live. Before the world got shut down, there was a lot of rapping going on.
