A\u00a0New York Times\u00a0reporter received backlash on social media<\/a> after making a comment on another network that critics believe dismissed concerns about former President Obama\u2019s star-studded\u00a0maskless birthday party\u00a0over the weekend.<\/p>\n

New York Times White House Correspondent Annie Karni discussed the controversy surrounding Obama\u2019s much-criticized Martha\u2019s Vineyard celebration where he was seen not wearing a mask and used the term \u201csophisticated\u201d crowd, saying that the guests were \u201cfollowing all the safety precautions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The clip sparked outrage on social media including from journalist Glenn Greenwald who wondered aloud why more people weren\u2019t concerned about the spread of the delta variant of the coronavirus at Obama\u2019s party.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone really should inform Annie Karni what certain parts of Hollywood thinks of vaccines,\u201d The Spectator contributor Stephen L. Miller tweeted.<\/p>\n

Karni attempted to clarify the clip saying the word \u201csophisticated\u201d was a direct quote from one of the residents she spoke to and that she was simply conveying the beliefs that some people on the island had.<\/p>\n

Obama had said that his party, which was originally going to entertain over 500 people, was \u201cscaled back\u201d due to the spread of the delta variant. However, the president was widely panned on social media after images from the party surfaced showing a\u00a0massive tent\u00a0and photos of\u00a0maskless attendees.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
