Rep. Elise Stefanik is blasting a local Vermont TV news<\/a> channel for \u201coutrageously sexist\u201d remarks after the outlet aired a segment discussing her pregnancy. <\/p>\n

\u201cWow. It\u2019s 2021. This is a real TV clip aired in #NY21 this evening,\u201d the GOP conference chair tweeted<\/a> on Friday, linking to the segment.<\/p>\n

\u201cA local news station thinks it\u2019s app<\/a>ropriate for two male \u2018journalists\/analysts\u2019 to question whether a pregnant woman or new mother can effectively legislate in elected office.\u201d<\/p>\n

The segment, which aired on WCAX, included reporter Darren Perron asking, \u201cIn terms of leadership, will her absence though \u2014 physical absence \u2014 on Capitol Hill hurt her role in the Republican Party?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The reply from SUNY Plattsburgh political scientist Harvey Schantz was, \u201cAt a personal level, there\u2019s always talking and backstabbing and coalition formation among members of the party, but it really shouldn\u2019t interrupt Stefanik\u2019s standing within the party.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the conversation Stefanik was referred to as, \u201csomeone who wants to be scarce after having a child,\u201d and \u201cnot up to full-time engagement on the floor of the House.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The upstate New York congresswoman finished her Twitter<\/a> thread by writing, \u201cWhat an outrageous disgrace from two sexist male commentators. Women viewers deserve a full apology from WCAX. This is sadly why more women choose not to run for office.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Head of the Republican National Committee Ronna McDaniel backed up Stefanik\u2019s complaint, tweeting out Saturday that \u201cI too am a working mom. The comments made about Elise Stefanik are sexist and shameful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rep. Ashley Hinson also joined in the Twitter bashing, with, \u201cIt\u2019s absurd that Elise has to deal with this. Elise continues to show women that they can run, win, and do the job better than anyone as a working mom.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stefanik took over the number 3 spot in the Republican House caucus back in May after Rep. Liz Cheney was dumped by the GOP members.\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
