And here\u2019s why.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       The government-run U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has stated that it is\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/wysk\/what-you-should-know-about-covid-19-and-ada-rehabilitation-act-and-other-eeo-laws\" class=\"icon none\">legal under federal law for companies to require their workers to get the COVID-19 vaccine<\/a>, with a few exceptions related to other health complications, pregnancy, religious beliefs and other reasonable accommodations.<\/p>\n<p>And over the past few weeks, a growing number of companies including United<br \/>\n        UAL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205037281\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.37%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and the Alphabet-owned<br \/>\n        GOOGL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202490156\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.61%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       Google<br \/>\n        GOOG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205453964\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.59%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n      have asked their employees to get vaccinated before returning to work. This <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lies to many positions that require employees to show up in-person, although that isn\u2019t always the case. Walmart<br \/>\n        WMT,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207374728\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.23%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has asked all corporate employees to get vaccinated, for example, but store cashiers are not currently required to get the shots. <\/p>\n<p>Other companies mandating that some of their in-person workers to get vaccinated include Disney<br \/>\n        DIS,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203410047\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.32%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a><br \/>\n        FB,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205064656\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.37%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Netflix<br \/>\n        NFLX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202353025\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.15%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Walgreens<br \/>\n        WBA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203410933\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.73%<\/bg-quote><span>.<\/span>\n      <\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Read more: <\/strong>United, Google ask employees to get vaccinated before returning to work<\/p>\n<p>In response, some employees have filed lawsuits against their companies for making them get vaccinated. But such contentions are \u201cnot very strong legal arguments,\u201d Allison Hoffman, a law professor at the University of Pennsylvania,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Business\/covid-19-vaccine-policies-triggered-lawsuits-workplace-showdowns\/story?id=78204107\" class=\"icon none\">recently claimed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:<\/strong>\u2018It\u2019s a fight you don\u2019t want\u2019: Will the Texas court ruling requiring employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine unleash more cases?<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s because companies and government organizations have been requiring various vaccinations for years, dating back to the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/197\/11\/\" class=\"icon none\">1905 Supreme Court Ruling Jacobson v. Massachusetts<\/a>. U.S. school boards, as well as the U.S. Army, can also require various vaccinations in order to participate. \u201cThe justification for allowing employers to mandate vaccinations is based upon the logical and strong premise that unvaccinated employees present a \u2018direct threat\u2019 to others in the workplace,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.natlawreview.com\/article\/equal-employment-opportunity-commission-eeoc-says-employers-can-mandate-covid-19\" class=\"icon none\">writes to the National Law Review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more: <\/strong>Here\u2019s what employers are NOT allowed to do to entice workers to get COVID-19 vaccinations<\/p>\n<p>In fact, if an employee is fired over not complying with their company\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine policy \u2014 such as the three CNN employees who were let go last week \u2014 they may not be able to collect unemployment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTypically, an employee who is terminated for failing to comply with company policies is not eligible for unemployment benefits, which would include refusing to comply with a company\u2019s COVID-19 prevention policies, masking requirements or vaccine requirements,\u201d\u00a0Alana Ackels, a labor and employment lawyer at Bell Nunnally, a Dallas-based law firm told MarketWatch.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also worth noting that an employer asking about vaccination status and\/or mandating vaccinations is not a violation of HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996).  \u201cIf an employer asks an employee to provide proof that they have been vaccinated, that is not a HIPAA violation, and employees may decide whether to provide that information to their employer,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/answers\/if-my-employer-requires-proof-of-my-covid-19-vaccination-status\/index.html\" class=\"icon none\">according<\/a>\u00a0to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.<\/p>\n<p>Workers can get one of the two-shot COVID vaccines developed by Pfizer<br \/>\n        PFE,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202877789\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.26%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n      \u00a0with German partner BioNTech<br \/>\n        BNTX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/214419716\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+14.31%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0\u00a0or Moderna<br \/>\n        MRNA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205619834\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+16.14%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n      \u00a0\u00a0or one shot of the single-dose Johnson &amp; Johnson\u2019s<br \/>\n        JNJ,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/201724570\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.16%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n      \u00a0vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>The number of U.S. companies mandating COVID-19 vaccinations for workers is likely only going to get bigger as cases of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 continue to rise.
