The Issue: Former President Barack Obama\u2019s birthday party in Martha\u2019s Vineyard over the weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Former President Barack Obama\u2019s birthday party was a hat trick of hypocrisy (\u201cO, no, he didn\u2019t!\u201d Aug. 9).<\/p>\n

First, there were no COVID protocols, even as the Democrats push for more restrictions on individuals and businesses.<\/p>\n

Second, the pollution. Guests were flying in on private jets from across the globe \u2014 climate change be damned.<\/p>\n

Third, think of the millions of dollars wasted just to stroke the former president\u2019s ego. Millions of dollars that could have been used to build a park or buy laptops for underprivileged students or help the unemployed put food on their table. Totally disgraceful.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Obama on his 60th birthday.<\/p>\n

Only those in the Democratic Party are allowed to throw a virus-superspreader party and not be condemned. And if any of the guests later tests positive, I\u2019m sure that information will not be forthcoming.<\/p>\n

The 2022 and 2024 elections cannot come fast enough \u2014 and hopefully the voters will make sure that we once again have a two-party leadership. S. Kane<\/p>\n

We peasants wait daily to hear whether schools will open, whether and where we\u2019ll again be forced to wear masks and whether we\u2019ll be forced out of stores, restaurants and entertainment venues unless we show vax passports.<\/p>\n

But the so-called \u201celites\u201d attend an ex-president\u2019s birthday party, which would be described, if one of us were able to host it, as a superspreader event.<\/p>\n

Wake up: Write, phone, and e-mail the people who represent you in local, state and federal government.<\/p>\n

When two sets of rules are so blatantly flaunted in our faces, one set for the privileged few and another for the teeming masses, it\u2019s un-American and unacceptable. Tell them. Michelle Graham<\/em><\/p>\n

Former President Obama celebrated his birthday at a Martha\u2019s Vineyard estate with A-list guests, including many from the Hollywood elite.<\/p>\n

So much for egalitarian and humbling demonstrations of sentiment to reflect the traumatic medical and economic disasters we\u2019ve all suffered over this last year and a half.<\/p>\n

Maybe some of the party favors at Obama\u2019s celebration can be donated to others who are less fortunate, so they, too, can celebrate our retired president\u2019s birthday. <\/p>\n

The Post recently pointed out the hypocrisy of Obama\u2019s Martha\u2019s Vineyard event.<\/p>\n

I think the list of Obama perks \u2014 such as a large gathering during the pandemic, a $12 million mansion and a deal with Netflix \u2014 while we hear nothing from his camp as to what he is actually doing for the Afro-American community shows that his hypocrisy runs much deeper than just one celebratory birthday party.<\/p>\n

One of the reasons COVID is spreading is because there are so many mixed messages.<\/p>\n

On one hand, officials tell us that the virus is spreading. Yet Obama threw a big birthday party. Even if everyone who attended was vaccinated, many people who read about the party will think that the crisis is behind us.<\/p>\n

Gov. Cuomo issued an executive order requiring all local governments to meet live in their municipal buildings. If the virus is spreading, shouldn\u2019t elected officials hold remote meetings again \u2014 rather than create the impression that everything is safe?<\/p>\n

I went to a function last week. A few hundred people attended; only three wore masks. If we want to win the war against COVID, we all need to be more careful.<\/p>\n
