A professional paintballer was kicked off her team Monday for making fun of a teenager infected with COVID-19 and saying he doesn\u2019t need the vaccine but instead, \u201ca f\u2013king treadmill.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jessica Maiolo, 31, posted a since-deleted video on TikTok about the Miami teen, who spent 10 days in the hospital with the virus, and how his mother said she\u2019d wished she\u2019d gotten him the vaccine sooner so the serious illness could\u2019ve been prevented.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMa\u2019am your kid does not need a COVID shot,\u201d Maiolo, standing in front of a television with the news<\/a> report paused, said in the video.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYour kid needs a f\u2013king treadmill. That\u2019s what he needs.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maiolo was excoriated on the social media<\/a> platform for being a \u201cvile human,\u201d fat shaming a teenager and spreading vaccine misinformation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Outraged users reported Maiolo\u2019s comments to Team USA Paintball, which is not affiliated with the Olympics, and following a brief investigation, the group announced Monday they were cutting ties with the athlete.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOur investigation into the troubling conduct of Ms. Maiolo has been concluded and we have decided to remove her from the team indefinitely,\u201d the team wrote in a statement posted to their Instagram account, saying the decision is \u201cfinal and in effect immediately.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying for Team USA Paintball means representing the sport at the highest level and being a leader both on and off the field. We are an eclectic mix of culture, opinions and ideas \u2013 and that\u2019s what makes our sport so great. We cannot tear each other down, both within our community and out. We are hopeful that this will serve as a valuable lesson for anyone paying attention.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maiolo, who previously shared fringe theories about the vaccine and was an outspoken critic against them, shared a statement on Instagram early Monday saying it was \u201cnever my intention to shame any individual.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat started out as me expressing my personal opinion about something I feel quite passionately about, has turned into a moment of regret for the situation I have put my teammates, our sponsors and the sport I love into,\u201d the statement reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I were to have such a moment again to convey my full thoughts, I would choose my words more carefully and consider how my opinions may affect others,\u201d the statement continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAs may be evident by the hobbies I have, I am a passionate individual. My fire is the same for paintball and fitness as it is for self advocacy and all of the things that make me proud to live where I do.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maiolo wrote she has \u201clearned a lot about the power of my reach\u201d in the last 24 hours and said she\u2019ll \u201cbe more responsible with it\u201d in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI app<\/a>reciate the opportunity to see this situation from the viewpoint of others, and to learn where I can do better and will. I hope that I may inspire others to realize the power of their words too.\u201d\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
