Saying the magic words. Alan Cumming had a few choice syllables for \u201cHarry Potter\u201d producers when they offered him a role in the billion-dollar franchise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Good Wife\u201d star, 56, was in the running to play Hogwarts professor Gilderoy Lockhart in \u201cHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets\u201d in 2002 alongside actors Rupert Everett and Hugh Grant. In an interview with\u00a0the Telegraph<\/a>, Cumming explained why he declined the coveted role.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t turn it down,\u201d he told the British publication. \u201cI told them to f\u2013k off!\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThey wanted me and Rupert Everett to do a screen test, and they said they couldn\u2019t pay me more than a certain sum, they just didn\u2019t have any more money in the budget,\u201d the Scottish performer added. \u201cAnd I had the same agent as Rupert, who of course, they were going to pay more. Blatantly lying, stupidly lying, as well. Like, if you\u2019re going to lie, be clever about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, tell them to f\u2013k right off,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd thought, well Rupert\u2019s going to get the part. They made him screen test, and I remember he brought his own wig. And then they f\u2013king gave it to Kenneth Branagh, came out of the shadows.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cumming starred in the App<\/a>le TV+ comedy musical series<\/a> \u201cSchmigadoon!\u201d as Mayor Menlove and has lent his voice to the controversial HBO Max sitcom \u201cThe Prince.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cHarry Potter\u201d film franchise completed its run in 2011 after eight films. It has grossed over $7 billion at the box office since its inception in 2001. To celebrate the upcoming 20th anniversary of \u201cHarry Potter and the Sorcerer\u2019s Stone,\u201d WarnerMedia<\/a> is set to create a quiz-style game<\/a> show and retrospective special on HBO Max, Cartoon Network and TBS later this year.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
