OWINGS MILLS, Md. \u2014 It\u2019s been quite a couple of weeks for Lamar Jackson.<\/p>\n

He tested positive for COVID-19 again, missing the beginning of training camp. While he was away, Buffalo\u2019s Josh Allen \u2014 another quarterback from Jackson\u2019s draft class \u2014 signed a big extension, raising more questions about how Jackson\u2019s negotiations are going with the Ravens.<\/p>\n

Now Jackson is practicing again, trying to make up for lost time while adjusting to some important new teammates.<\/p>\n

Jackson spoke to the media<\/a> Monday for the first time since returning from the COVID-19 list. He began practicing Saturday. Jackson\u2019s positive COVID-19 test came right before the start of training camp. He also tested positive last season and missed a game<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust like last time probably \u2014 fatigued, if anything. I was sleeping a lot,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cBut I\u2019m glad to be back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Jackson was in good spirits Monday, he said the positive test was tough to take, especially given the timing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was crazy. I was heartbroken, because I wasn\u2019t looking forward to that at all \u2014 right before camp,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was like, not again, not right now. But it\u2019s over with.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if the Ravens have talked to him about getting vaccinated, he sounded noncommittal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just got off the COVID list, so I\u2019ve got to talk to my team doctors and try to see how they feel about it,\u201d he said. \u201cKeep learning as much as I can about it, and we\u2019ll go from there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jackson said he tried to stay sharp by throwing in his backyard \u2014 his cousins served as receivers. Baltimore plays its first exhibition game Saturday night against New Orleans. The preseason games may not be all that significant for a player of Jackson\u2019s stature, but he could use time on the field.<\/p>\n

Baltimore added receiver Sammy Watkins in the offseason and drafted receiver Rashod Bateman, part of an effort to improve what was the lowest passing output in the league a season ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cSammy makes my job a lot easier, and my job is to make his a lot easier,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cEven when we\u2019re doing scramble drills and stuff like that, he\u2019s fighting off defenders, getting open. I missed him in the end zone, little back shoulder, he was right there. I\u2019m mad I missed him. I\u2019m still mad right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Allen\u2019s contract, Jackson wasn\u2019t saying much about how that might affect his negotiations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s good for him, but like I said, I\u2019m not worried about that,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cI\u2019m just trying to work on getting better right now. I just got off COVID, I\u2019m worried about my teammates, and we\u2019re trying to get somewhere. The time will come about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coach John Harbaugh also indicated there wasn\u2019t anything new to report on that front.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll happ<\/a>en when it\u2019s going to happen. It\u2019s best for both sides to happen, both sides want it to happen,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s really not a hurry.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
