Listen to \u201cFictional California\u201d and \u201cBack to Oz\u201d below. The latter arrives with a music video directed by Alex Horan and animated by Clara Murray.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a song that I had written mostly at home in California,\u201d De Augustine said of \u201cBack to Oz\u201d in a press release. He continued:<\/p>\n<div class=\"ConsumerMarketingUnitThemedWrapper-kknrtm gZsZUO consumer-marketing-unit consumer-marketing-unit--article-mid-content\" role=\"presentation\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div class=\"consumer-marketing-unit__slot consumer-marketing-unit__slot--article-mid-content consumer-marketing-unit__slot--in-content\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"journey-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"BaseWrap-sc-TwdDQ BlockquoteEmbedWrapper-sc-eQHUIm hlNbBe kqeRWC blockquote-embed\">\n<div class=\"BaseWrap-sc-TwdDQ BlockquoteEmbedContent-hqPMVh hlNbBe iVtWuM blockquote-embed__content\">\n<p>We finished its lyrics after watching <em>Return to Oz.<\/em> The words reference an erosion of a central character\u2019s internal reality. A loss of innocence is the impetus for a journey to find inner truth. In the film, Dorothy returns to the world of Oz to find its landscape in ruins and its citizens frozen in stone. Only she can find the ruby slippers and return peace to Oz. Only we can save ourselves, but we first have to remember who we truly are.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"AdWrapper-fEXqQS krBdZf ad ad--in-content\">\n<div class=\"ad__slot ad__slot--in-content\" data-node-id=\"7erpk8\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Stevens added: \u201cAngelo is mostly known for his intimate home recordings; his music is quiet and confessional. So for \u2018Back to Oz\u2019 we decided to go for something flashier. The song has a fun guitar groove, so we gave it some bass and drums, and Angelo even recorded his first electric guitar solo. It\u2019s a sad song\u2014being mostly about disillusionment\u2014but it has a great party vibe too.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"Container-ineSfH kZHRTY\"><\/div>\n<p><em>A Beginner\u2019s Mind<\/em> arrives September 24 via\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click='{\"element\":\"ExternalLink\",\"outgoingURL\":\"https:\/\/asthmatickitty.com\/\"}' href=\"https:\/\/asthmatickitty.com\/\">Asthmatic Kitty Records<\/a>. Upon announcing the project last month, Stevens and De Augustine released lead singles \u201cReach Out\u201d and \u201cOlympus.\u201d Stevens and De Augustine worked on <em>A Beginner\u2019s Mind<\/em> at a cabin in upstate New York.
