\nImagine still having to publicly comment on a relationship that ended more than 15 years ago!<\/p>\n

Most people are lucky enough to leave their romantic past in the past, but Sophia Bush<\/strong> doesn\u2019t have that luxury. Unfortunately, because her brief marriage to One Tree Hill<\/em> co-star Chad Michael Murray<\/strong> was so closely tied to her career and public persona, she still gets asked about it to this day.<\/p>\n

After fielding these questions for more than a decade, though, the actress has developed a policy of non-answers. During an app<\/a>earance on Tuesday\u2019s episode of her fellow 2000s The WB<\/strong> star Michael Rosenbaum<\/strong>\u2019s podcast Inside of You<\/em>, she explained about her famous ex:<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, I\u2019m not going to talk about him. \u2026 I\u2019m not allowed to because I\u2019ve tried to poke fun at being a dumb kid and whenever I\u2019ve done that, it gets twisted into I\u2019m talking s**t about somebody who I don\u2019t even know anymore, who\u2019s clearly a grown-up.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Oh, inneresting! She added:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think you have to laugh at who you used to be, but when people ask me about history that involves someone else\u2026 it\u2019s not worth my time. It\u2019s not a place where I harbor ill will or anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What a mature way of looking at it! You could hold onto all the grudges, keep an image of the person you used to know in your head\u2026 but you aren\u2019t the same person anymore, they aren\u2019t the same person anymore. Why bother??<\/p>\n

Even if they did cheat on you with\u00a0Paris Hilton<\/strong>. Right?<\/p>\n

When Rosenbaum observed these comments never \u201ccome out right,\u201d she agreed:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt never does! And I\u2019ve tried to like, you know, do the thing where when I get stuck live on the air \u2014 which has happened to me twice \u2014 getting asked about it where I give a little\u2026like jazz hands quip and move on. It just doesn\u2019t work, so I\u2019m not going to.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We totally understand the 39-year-old\u2019s feelings on the matter. Not only do these comments tend to get pulled out of context by the media, but sometimes it results in things such as her ex-husband releasing a statement on the matter or his current wife making teasing social media<\/a> posts about it. It\u2019s a pretty uncomfortable thing to have play out publicly.<\/p>\n

However, the Chicago P.D.<\/em> alum did reiterate her youth as a reason for the short-lived marriage. After all, she was just 21 YEARS OLD, as she reminded fans:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a very na\u00efve 21-year-old kid, and that\u2019s all there is to it. \u2026 I think lots of people do stupid s\u2013t before their prefrontal cortexes are fully formed and they\u2019re not until they\u2019re 26. So you do the math on my timeline. I literally didn\u2019t have a whole brain.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Having a disappointing first nuptial experience in her past (and constantly looming over her present) hasn\u2019t soured her on the institution entirely, though. She reflected:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it depends on what people\u2019s motivations are and I want to make sure, whether it\u2019s myself or one of my best friends, that we\u2019re clear on what it is we\u2019re signing up for rather than thinking we\u2019re getting some Kate Hudson<\/strong> and Matt McConaughey<\/strong> rom-com life. This notion that you\u2019re going to meet your person and they\u2019re going to make you so happy that you\u2019re going to be fulfilled and you\u2019ll never be nervous again and you\u2019ll never ever think anyone else is hot \u2014 like what? It\u2019s such an absurd joke.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I am a fan of, what I am a believer in is real partnership, real intimacy that comes with radical honesty and with ground rules of always giving your partner the benefit of the doubt while asking questions, while being able to be vulnerable, admit when you\u2019re afraid, admit when you\u2019re being triggered by something else. You have to do a lot of work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Damn. That\u2019s about as far as you can get from a na\u00efve 21-year-old kid\u2019s perspective on romance, huh? We\u2019re glad she has figured out what works for her \u2014 especially because that wisdom was clearly hard-won.<\/p>\n
