\n Universal Music Group and music streaming giant Spotify inked a multiyear global licensing pact on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The deal will allow Universal \u2014 the world\u2019s largest record label which reps the likes of Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Drake and Kanye West \u2014 to promote its artists on Spotify\u2019s platform and be an early adapter of the streamer\u2019s new technology<\/a>. Terms of the deal weren\u2019t disclosed.<\/p>\n

According to both companies, the partnership will give UMG the ability to \u201cdeepen its leading role as an early adopter of future products\u201d on Spotify\u2019s platform and \u201cprovide valuable feedback to Spotify\u2019s development team.\u201d The record company will also collaborate on \u201cstate-of-the-art marketing campaigns across Spotify\u2019s platform.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spotify chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel Ek said the deal will help his company \u201cadvance artists of all stages in their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both companies have massive reach. <\/span>Spotify had 286 million users \u2014 including 130 million Spotify Premium subscribers \u2014 as of the end of March 2020, and it is available in 92 markets across the globe. UMG, which is majority owned by Vivendi, is planning to go public in the next three years. Last year<\/span>, Vivendi sold 10 percent of UMG to a consortium led by Tencent Holdings for $3.3\u00a0 billion, valuing the company at $33 billion.<\/p>\n
