A few months ago, sharp-eyed fans got what looked to be visual proof that Knuckles the Echidna would be app<\/a>earing in the upcoming\u00a0Sonic the Hedgehog 2<\/em><\/strong>. Today we not only got that confirmed… we found out who’s playing him!<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

English voice actor, producer, and DJ\u00a0Idris Elba<\/strong>\u00a0dropped this tweet and image on his official Twitter account<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u2014 and if you read it in Elba’s voice, that’s all the proof you need that he’s the guy for the job:<\/p>\n

Elba has a multitude of memorable roles to his name, including Stacker Pentecost in\u00a0Pacific Rim<\/em><\/strong>, Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stringer Bell in\u00a0The Wire<\/em><\/strong>, and (most recently) Bloodsport in James Gunn’s\u00a0The Suicide Squad<\/em><\/strong>. He will be joining\u00a0Ben Schwartz<\/strong>\u00a0(returning as the voice of Sonic),\u00a0Jim Carrey<\/strong>\u00a0(as Dr. Robotnik), and James Marsden\u00a0<\/strong>(as Sonic’s human friend Tom).<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

2020’s\u00a0Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>film got off to a rough start with fans, as Sonic’s CG design for the film was largely criticized. But after a glow-up led by\u00a0Sonic Mania Adventures\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>director\u00a0Tyson Hesse<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the character design (and the film itself) went on to positive reviews. The new art style carried over into the post-credits arrival of Sonic’s sidekick Tails (voiced once again by\u00a0Colleen O’Shaughnessy<\/strong>), who will also appear in the upcoming film.<\/p>\n

Sonic the Hedgehog 2<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is currently racing toward an\u00a0April 2022<\/strong>\u00a0release date.<\/p>\n
