“#7-Year-Old Boy Dead After Lighting Himself On Fire While Playing With Matches

\nA 7-year-old Utah boy is dead after being severely burned while reportedly playing with matches.<\/p>\n

According to local news<\/a> affiliate\u00a0KSL-TV<\/em>, the tragic incident occurred in an alleyway in Salt Lake City neighborhood Saturday night. Police were called to the scene by residents after a fire had started in the alleyway, and when authorities arrived on scene, they discovered a 7-year-old boy had been horribly burned. A 9-year-old who was also there at the time of the incident was thankfully left uninjured.<\/p>\n

Per SLC Fire Capt. Tony Stowe<\/strong>, a preliminary investigation determined that the 7-year-old and 9-year-old were \u201cplaying with matches and some type of accelerant\u201d while attempting to melt a fence. Unfortunately, the accelerant app<\/a>arently got out of control, and the younger boy accidentally set himself on fire. Stowe confirmed that the blaze moved so quickly and so thoroughly that it \u201cburned off most of the boy\u2019s clothing\u201d while causing second-degree burns to more than 90 percent of his body.<\/p>\n

First responders and neighbors at the scene were able to extinguish the flames and wrap the boy in a blanket before an ambulance transported him to\u00a0Primary Children\u2019s Hospital<\/strong>, where he was admitted in critical condition. Sadly, the severe burns proved to be too much, and the young boy was pronounced dead hours later at the hospital.<\/p>\n

Authorities did not release the boys\u2019 identities, but KSL-TV\u00a0<\/em>spoke to residents neighboring the scene who confirmed the 7-year-old victim was named\u00a0Kaisen Dam<\/strong>. Apparently, he was universally loved by the other children on their street, as he was always outside wanting to play game<\/a>s and have fun.<\/p>\n

Neighborhood friend\u00a0Sito Tausinga<\/strong> recalled Kaisen\u2019s shining personality in an interview, stating (below):<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s like a little brother to us. He was really close [with us]. He\u2019s the one who brings everyone together.\u00a0He has like no electronics [at home], so he knocks on people\u2019s houses and says, \u2018Can your kids come play?\u2019 And I see them all laughing outside and playing with him and it\u2019s cute.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So sad\u2026<\/p>\n

Sito\u2019s sister\u00a0Fane Tausinga<\/strong> added more:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really sad. He would just come [on] ride bikes with us, and then he started to know us, and my mom loved him.\u00a0Yesterday, he just came around and he was like, \u2018I\u2019m bored.\u2019 And I opened the window and I said, \u2018Go home\u2019 And three hours later, we found out there was a fire in the back. My auntie called my mom, and we just heard my mom screaming, and we all came over here.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Just awful.<\/p>\n

For now, the incident remains under investigation by both the SLC Fire Department and the city\u2019s police department, as they confirmed on\u00a0Twitter<\/a><\/strong> on Sunday:<\/p>\n
