Nick Cannon is saying \u201cno\u201d to cancel culture, coming to rapp<\/a>er DaBaby\u2019s defense following his controversial homophobic remarks<\/a> at the Rolling Loud\u00a0concert on July 25.<\/p>\n

Cannon, 40, appeared on radio station 105.1\u2019s program, \u201cThe Breakfast Club\u201d and expressed his thoughts on the 29-year-old\u2019s comments. The \u201cWild \u2018N Out\u201d host himself has previously come under fire for anti-Semitic statements he made on his\u00a0\u201cCannon\u2019s Class\u201d podcast in 2020. The father of seven<\/a> was fired \u2014 then re-hired<\/a> \u2014 from \u201cWild \u2018N Out\u201d after apologizing in February 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, I think not only in the black community \u2014 and I\u2019ve experienced it \u2014 but definitely just men a lot of times, we have that ego. We believe apologizing is weakness when it actually takes great strength to step up to anyone and say, \u2018I was wrong,’\u201d Cannon said on the radio show.<\/a><\/p>\n

He admitted that DaBaby\u2019s comments were unwarranted and believed the \u201cUnder the Sun\u201d rapper could endure a period of \u201cgrowth\u201d following the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know Baby. And that\u2019s a strong brother\u2026 That man just lost his pops, his brother, all the things that he [has been through] and still to have that big smile that he has every day, knowing everything that he comes [from]? I grew up in Charlotte [for] part of my life \u2014 I know that life,\u201d Cannon added. \u201cHe a fighter. We\u2019ve seen his back against the wall. He\u2019s swinging. He\u2019s swinging just so he could get out. We all have to accept emotion.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cDrumline\u201d actor continued, \u201cI challenge all these people who actually want to cancel somebody, and even specifically in DaBaby\u2019s situation, let\u2019s use this as an opportunity for education. Because that\u2019s what happened in my scenario to where I still stuck true to the truths. [My minister] told me that I don\u2019t ever want falsehood to come out of my mouth, so if I\u2019m saying something that is not correct about your community, show me where I\u2019m incorrect. Correct me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m saying these things about the LGBTQIA community, show me where I\u2019m wrong,\u201d he said. \u201cNot only is that going to help me, but you\u2019re going to help so many other people who think like me. There are so many DaBabys out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

DaBaby was dropped from concerts such as Lollapalooza<\/a> and New York City\u2019s\u00a0Governors Ball Music Festival. Cannon explained that he doesn\u2019t agree with the festivals dropping DaBaby from their lineups because they\u2019re enforcing \u201cmob rule.\u201d Cannon reiterated, \u201cMob rule has never worked in any society.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a moment where we should all gather around DaBaby and embrace him because if we can do that, watch how many mentalities will change in the hip-hop community,\u201d Cannon said.<\/p>\n

On Aug. 2, DaBaby posted (then deleted) an apology<\/a> for his statements, writing, \u201cI want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I Made. Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV\/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.\u201d\n <\/div>\n
