Alex Cord, the star of 1980s military drama \u201cAirwolf,\u201d has died. He was 88.<\/p>\n

Cord\u2019s publicist and friend of 20 years, Linda McAlister, confirmed the news<\/a> to Deadline<\/a> on Tuesday. The prolific character actor passed away at his Valley View, Texas, home on Monday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Floral Park, Long Island, native was best known for his role in the CBS series<\/a> \u201cAirwolf,\u201d in which he played the white suit and eyepatch-wearing Michael Coldsmith-Briggs III (code name: Archangel), a mysterious government contact trying to recover the supersonic helicopter Airwolf from Libya, where it was used by villains to sink American warships.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The show, which also starred Jan-Michael Vincent and Ernest Borgnine, ran for three seasons and is remembered for its synth-heavy soundtrack and for being one of three helicopter-based TV dramas to debut in 1984.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While best recalled for the iconic eyepatch-wearing \u201cAirwolf\u201d role, the prolific Cord\u2019s career included both film and television parts. Over a four-decade span from the 1960s through the 1990s, Cord racked up dozens of credits in shows including \u201cRoute 66,\u201d \u201cThe Love Boat,\u201d \u201cFantasy Island,\u201d \u201cMurder, She Wrote,\u201d \u201cPolice Story\u201d and \u201cWalker, Texas Ranger.\u201d He also app<\/a>ears in the movies \u201cThe Last Grenade,\u201d \u201cThe Dead Are Alive!,\u201d \u201cGrayeagle,\u201d \u201cThe Naked Truth,\u201d \u201cStiletto,\u201d \u201cStagecoach\u201d and \u201cJungle Warriors.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
