The seats from which Terence Mann arises to deliver his \u201cPeople will come\u201d soliloquy. From which young Karin Kinsella falls moments later, requiring the services of Dr. Archibald \u201cMoonlight\u201d Graham \u2014 transforming from teenager to senior citizen \u2014 to save her life.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re original,\u201d Tom Mietzel, CEO of Go the Distance, which runs the facility, assured The Post later in a telephone interview. Same goes for the farmhouse behind them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps if you somehow haven\u2019t seen the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0097351\/\">1989 film \u201cField of Dreams,\u201d<\/a> or if you watched it and it somehow wasn\u2019t your bag, then setting foot on these grounds \u2014 on a movie set, let\u2019s acknowledge \u2014 won\u2019t get your geek on. The idea of holding an actual Major League Baseball <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> here might strike you as cheesy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re one of the countless people who bought into the film\u2019s messages of hope and redemption and cried at the ending, however? Then Thursday night\u2019s matchup of the Yankees and White Sox at a pop-up ballpark adjacent to the original movie diamond \u2014 just through a cornfield, naturally \u2014 will serve as a real-life sequel of sorts to the fictional original. Because, in a vacuum, holding a regular-season baseball contest on active farmland isn\u2019t much more absurd than ghost ballplayers emerging from a cornfield.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you can hold dreams and memories back from <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a>, these things mean a lot,\u201d YES Network analyst (and former Yankee, of course) Paul O\u2019Neill said. \u201cIt\u2019s such a great idea. Such a cool thing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"\/>\u201cI would never have imagined they\u2019d play a major league game there,\u201d said actor Dwier Brown, who played John Kinsella in the movie, \u201cand I couldn\u2019t be more excited about it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brown will join his cinematic son, Kevin Costner, the film\u2019s star, in pregame festivities that surely won\u2019t hold back on milking the movie\u2019s most popular elements. Fans will enter the premises via the original field, a tourist site since the movie\u2019s release and success, and walk through the corn to the Yankees-White Sox game. Those corn stalks, cultivated by MLB, will be as tall as 12 feet, which you\u2019ll be able to see through the mesh of the right field wall. Former Yankees <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> manager Murray Cook, who specializes in helping baseball put on these events, said he utilized the backstop and bullpen seats, among other supplies, from the Yankees-Red Sox London Series of 2019. The stands will hold 7,911 fans, with Iowans getting access to about 2,500 of them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been trying to find these really cool, iconic locations, places that don\u2019t get to normally experience Major League Baseball,\u201d said Chris Marinak, MLB\u2019s chief operations and strategy officer. \u201cWe had one in Omaha, and Fort Bragg, and now our first game in Iowa. This one has a special sort of feeling to it because the movie itself was such a widely <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ealing movie. Even non-baseball fans watch that movie and love that movie because of that message and storytelling in the movie.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It should only enhance the site\u2019s appeal that this remains an active farm, growing soybeans in addition to corn. The studio performed some construction on the house to make it more film-crew friendly, knocking down some walls (the house scenes were actually filmed there), and Don Lansing relocated to a nearby trailer to let the Hollywood people do their thing. In 2012, the Lansings sold it to a consortium of investors (called Go the Distance) led by Denise Stillman, who envisioned turning the field into a hotbed for youth baseball tournaments, with 18 fields added to the original (which wouldn\u2019t get touched). A spark for that plan, Stillman thought, would be to hold a major league game there.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Field of Dreams isn\u2019t as much of a baseball field as a feeling,\u201d said Mietzel, who married Stillman in 2016. \u201cIt\u2019s a place where family and friends come together. That\u2019s how she got rolling on it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As Stillman engaged with MLB officials on this wild-card idea, though, she contracted liver cancer in April 2017. Most people look at it as a mecca for baseball and for many other things as well,\u201d Becky Lansing said. \u201cWe have the added honor of having had it as a family legacy, which I\u2019m hoping now is secure in the history books of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> fabric of our country.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Field of Dreams, boosted by MLB\u2019s presence here, should welcome more than 200,000 visitors this year, Meitzel said, and there\u2019s increased optimism they\u2019ll accrue the necessary funds to put Stillman\u2019s full plan in motion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As for whether this game will be an MLB one-off or the launch to a tradition, Marinak said: \u201cWe\u2019ll see how things unfold this first time around. Obviously it\u2019s a lot of effort to keep the field up, plant the corn again. We\u2019ve got to make the call on whether this is a one-time experience or we can do something more with it.
