“#Yankees put Clay Holmes on COVID IL as ‘aggravating’ outbreak drags on<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

KANSAS CITY \u2014\u00a0The Yankees yet again have been impacted by coronavirus, as right-hander Clay Holmes was added to the COVID IL on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Holmes reported symptoms and the team was awaiting test results. Brooks Kriske was activated to take his place on the roster before Wednesday\u2019s game<\/a> against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.<\/p>\n

The Yankees already are without Anthony Rizzo, Gary Sanchez, Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery, who were part of the team\u2019s most recent outbreak.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Asked Tuesday about the team\u2019s troubles with COVID, which has now sidelined 12 players over the course of the season, Zack Britton said it was \u201cfrustrating.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know why it keeps happ<\/a>ening,\u2019\u2019 Britton said Tuesday. \u201cWe\u2019re over 90 percent vaccinated [as a travel<\/a>ing group]. We did everything we felt we needed to do to protect ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rizzo is the only Yankee who has publicly said they were not vaccinated, but the team has had at least one other non-breakthrough case.<\/p>\n

On getting the vaccine, Britton said, \u201cWe knew it didn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t get COVID, but it lessens the symptoms \u2014\u00a0which it has in some cases and hasn\u2019t in others. Guys are still getting severe symptoms like they never got the vaccine.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Britton said he has no answers as to why they have had so many cases.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to say,\u2019\u2019 Britton said. \u201cGuys have been coming to the field, playing baseball. I know guys aren\u2019t going out doing stuff they shouldn\u2019t be doing. I feel like I\u2019m pretty in tune with the team and guys\u2019 thinking\u2026 I don\u2019t know why we\u2019re leading the pack and other teams seem not to have any cases. At this point, it\u2019s pretty annoying.\u201d<\/p>\n
