\n A man was fatally shot on a Staten Island street in broad daylight late Wednesday morning, according to police and fire officials.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old man was blasted in the chest at the intersection of Barker Street and Castleton Avenue in Port Richmond just before 11:30 a.m., authorities said.<\/p>\n

He was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he died at 12:07 p.m., police said. <\/p>\n

The circumstances of the shooting were not immedia<\/a>tely clear.<\/p>\n

Police are looking for a male suspect wearing a red shirt and white shorts, who took off in a green Acura with Pennsylvania plates. <\/p>\n

Andrea Corsetti, 35, told the Post she was running errands around the corner when she heard a single shot. <\/p>\n

\u201cI heard a single pop, which I thought was a firecracker,\u201d Corsetti said. \u201cBut then, like a minute later I saw all these police cars rushing down the street and I said, \u2018OK, somebody\u2019s been shot.\u2019 I came around the corner to take a look and I could see EMTs loading the guy onto an ambulance. He wasn\u2019t in good shape. There was a lot of blood.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI always considered this a pretty safe neighborhood,\u201d she added. \u201cBut when you read about the rise in crime all over the city, it\u2019s wishful thinking to think crime\u2019s not gonna find its way into even the good neighborhoods.\u201d<\/p>\n

The shooting comes amid a recent spike in gunplay across the city.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
