The musical comedy \u201cFunny Girl\u201d will play Broadway for the first time in nearly 60 years, producers announced Wednesday. <\/p>\n

And the show has already found its wisecracking Fanny Brice \u2014 Beanie Feldstein. <\/p>\n

Feldstein, 28, app<\/a>eared in the 2017 revival of \u201cHello, Dolly!\u201d as Minnie Fay but is best known for her film roles in \u201cLady Bird\u201d and \u201cBooksmart.\u201d She also plays Monica Lewinsky in the upcoming \u201cImpeachment: American Crime Story.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Fanny is, without a doubt, the actress\u2019 biggest casting so far. The role made a star out of Barbra Streisand in 1964, when the show played the Winter Garden Theatre, and she won the Oscar for Best Actress for the film version in 1968. <\/p>\n

Now, Sonia Friedman will produce Jule Styne\u2019s and Bob Merrill\u2019s musical, which features hit songs such as \u201cDon\u2019t Rain On My Parade\u201d and \u201cPeople,\u201d and Michael Mayer will direct.<\/p>\n

Mayer previously staged another revival of \u201cFunny Girl,\u201d also produced by Friedman, in London\u2019s West End in 2016 starring Sheridan Smith, but it got a mixed response from critics. The Guardian\u2019s Michael Billington wrote<\/a> that the production \u201cresembles a poor man\u2019s \u2018Gypsy.\u2019 \u201d <\/p>\n

The Broadway revival, however, comes with a new set designer, David Zinn, and two new choreographers, Ellenore Scott and Ayodele Casel. Harvey Fierstein will again revamp the book, as he did in London. <\/p><\/div>\n
