Disgraced outgoing Gov. Andrew Cuomo\u2019s stain is even affecting the legacy of his late father, three-term Gov. Mario Cuomo.<\/p>\n

Some Democrats are jumping onboard with the renaming push that Republican Assemblyman Michael Lawler introduced in March to remove Mario Cuomo\u2019s name from the new $4 billion Hudson River crossing in Rockland\/Westchester \u2014 an idea unthinkable just months ago.<\/p>\n

It would be renamed with its original moniker \u2014 the Tappan Zee Bridge.<\/p>\n

Queens Assemblywoman Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas, a Democratic social<\/a>ist, has signed on as a co-sponsor of the bill to rename the bridge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe renaming of the Tappan Zee Bridge was a cosmetic vanity project of Andrew Cuomo. Given our approaching change from the regime of the administration to a new chapter, I think it\u2019s appropriate to have a clean slate in several ways that include returning the bridge to its former name,\u201d Gonz\u00e1lez-Rojas told The Post on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Adding insult to injury is that Gonzalez-Rojas represents parts of the same borough from which the Cuomos hail.<\/p>\n

Bronx Democratic Assemblyman Kenny Burgos also said he\u2019s leaning toward signing on to the bridge renaming bill.<\/p>\n

Burgos said he has many relatives in Rockland County \u201cand people in the area want to rename the bridge.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s probably in the best interest of the state to change the name back to the Tappan Zee Bridge,\u201d Burgos said.<\/p>\n

Lawler (R-Rockland), the author of the bill, said he\u2019s spoken to other Democrats who are also considering joining the bridge renaming campaign.<\/p>\n

At Andrew Cuomo\u2019s behest, the Legislature agreed to rename the new bridge after Mario Cuomo in 2017 following a backroom deal that was signed off on by the then-Republican leadership of the state Senate.<\/p>\n

Cuomo announced his resignation Tuesday after a devastating investigative report released by Attorney General<\/a> Letitia James last week concluded the governor sexually harassed 11 women, including current and former government staffers.<\/p>\n

Lawler joked Wednesday, \u201cAndrew Cuomo couldn\u2019t get away with naming the bridge after himself, so he named it after Mario.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawler also noted that the bridge used to be called the \u201cMalcolm Wilson-Tappan Zee Bridge,\u201d named after Wilson, a former governor who lived near the span.<\/p>\n

He said it was then-Gov. Mario Cuomo who approved the naming of the bridge after Wilson, a Republican.<\/p>\n

The Legislature would have to approve the scrubbing of Mario Cuomo\u2019s name from the bridge \u2014 still a longshot.<\/p>\n

Mario Cuomo was governor from 1983 to 1994. He died in 2015.<\/p>\n
