We got into the ring with the cast of new Starz drama Heels<\/em><\/a>, which centers on two wrestler brothers: family man Jack Spade (Stephen Amell<\/a>, Arrow<\/em><\/a>) and younger, rebellious Ace (Alexander Ludwig<\/a>, Vikings<\/em><\/a>). The tough guys feel the pressure as stars of their late father\u2019s Duffy Wrestling League, the central entertainment in the family\u2019s small Georgia hometown.<\/p>\n

\u201cJack\u2019s been thrust into a leadership position, and there are bumps in the road,\u201d Amell says of his character, who writes the script<\/a>s for each match, which includes a \u201cheel\u201d or villain, and a \u201cface\u201d or hero. The \u201cface\u201d is Ace, who, Ludwig says, is \u201cis an explosive personality and a rollercoaster of emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s not just a man\u2019s world. Ace\u2019s valet and girlfriend Crystal (Kelli Berglund, Now Apocalypse<\/em>) has dreams too. \u201cCrystal wants to get in the ring and wrestle and prove to these guys that she can go toe-to-toe with them,\u201d Berglund says. Jack\u2019s wife Staci (Alison Luff, New Amsterdam<\/em><\/a>) is finding herself now that their son is in school, and, Luff promises, \u201cdevelops her own interests.\u201d<\/p>\n

The roster of the DWL also features big, entertaining characters like intimidating Apocalypse (onetime Steelers linebacker James Harrison Jr.). \u201cBeing a tough guy is one thing that translates from wrestling to football,\u201d Harrison says. And energetic Rooster Robbins (Allen Maldonado, The Last O.G.<\/em><\/a>) who\u2019s, \u201cwaiting for his shot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ace gets his chance at stardom thanks to the attention of pro wrestling scout and former superstar heel Wild Bill Hancock (Chris Bauer, True Blood<\/em><\/a>) who makes a big splash when he comes to town. \u201cHe\u2019s decided the entire world is a wrestling ring,\u201d Bauer says. His arrival disrupts the tidy life of his ex, Jack\u2019s biz partner Willie (Mary McCormack<\/a>, The West Wing<\/em><\/a>). \u201cWhen he comes back, and needs her, it\u2019s all upside down,\u201d McCormack says.<\/p>\n
