Today, we look at<\/em> <em>exciting comments from Mike Flanagan and Rahul  Kohli about Midnight Mass. <\/em><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n<p><strong>Mike Flanagan<\/strong> is a master of horror. His movies and TV series, including <em><strong>The Haunting of Hill House<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Doctor Sleep<\/strong><\/em>, and <em><strong>Oculus<\/strong><\/em>, are terrifying pieces of media that also have a deeply emotional core. Flanagan\u2019s ability to balance horror and empathy makes him a unique voice in the genre. Now, he\u2019s back with another series for Netflix called<strong> <em>Midnight Mass<\/em><\/strong>, and the hype is real.<\/p>\n<p>The series is a long-time coming for Flanagan. He wrote the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> for <em>Midnight Mass<\/em> ten years ago, and since then has been trying to get it greenlit. Now, the project is finally going to see the light of day. The series is set in Crockett Island, a small village where strange things start to happen after the arrival of a mysterious priest. Details are scarce, which only adds to the excitement for Flanagan\u2019s latest.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-the-midnight-mass-mission-statement\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Midnight_Mass_Mission_Statement\"><\/span>The Midnight Mass Mission Statement<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Since the trailer for <meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/><em>Midnight Mass<\/em> dropped, Flanagan has taken to Twitter to share his excitement and his personal connection to the project. He <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/flanaganfilm\/status\/1424728420420710401\">posted a personal statement<\/a> about the series, in which he writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>I\u2019m just going to admit it\u2026 Midnight Mass is my favorite project so far.<\/p>\n<p>As a former altar boy, about to celebrate three years of sobriety, it\u2019s not hard to see what makes this so personal. The ideas at the root of this show scare me to my core.<\/p>\n<p>There is darkness at work on Crockett Island. Some of it is supernatural, but the scariest is born of human nature. The darkness that animates this story isn\u2019t hard to see in our own world, unfortunately.<\/p>\n<p>But this show is about something else as well\u2026 faith itself. One of the great mysteries of human nature. How even in the darkness, in the worst of it, in the absence of light \u2014 and hope \u2014 we sing.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you enjoy our song.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Such a declaration means a lot coming from Flanagan as he is often so connected to his projects. He has been open about his struggle with sobriety, and his work often addresses the horrors of such a struggle, as seen in <em>Doctor Sleep<\/em> and <em>The Haunting of Hill House<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Midnight_Mass_is_Going_to_Be_Huge\"><\/span>Why Midnight Mass is Going to Be Huge<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Flanagan isn\u2019t the only one showing excitement about the project. Actor <strong>Rahul Kohli<\/strong>, who previously worked with the director on <em>The Haunting of Bly Manor<\/em>, recently shared that he accepted a role in <em>Midnight Mass<\/em> immediately after being pitched the story. As he says in an interview <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/D9c17V7VDcY\">on the <em>Just The Facts<\/em> podcast<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201c<em>Midnight Mass <\/em>is the best thing I\u2019ve ever read\u2026.[the] series is going to be huge.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rahul Kohli says Mike Flanagan&#039;s Midnight Mass is the &quot;best thing I&#039;ve ever read&quot;\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D9c17V7VDcY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>On the podcast, Kohli speaks about Flanagan and his creative partner, <strong>Trevor Macy<\/strong>, and explains how there\u2019s a sense of trust they bestow on their actors to create amazing characters no matter their previous experience. He says:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cIt\u2019s not about what I\u2019ve done before. There\u2019s a trust, like, \u2018We\u2019re going to give you this, and you\u2019re going to make it work whether you\u2019ve done it on camera before or not.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Kohli also gives a brief insight into his character, Sheriff Hassan, and the material he works with and says: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cMy stuff in \u2018<em>Midnight Mass<\/em>\u2018 doesn\u2019t resemble \u2018<em>Bly<\/em>\u2018 in the f***ing slightest\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>By allowing such diversity in the roles Kohli plays in his work, Flanagan offers the opportunity for him to show off his range as a performer, which leads to even more projects for the actor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Horror_is_Comedy\"><\/span>Horror is Comedy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>Midnight Mass<\/em> star Rahul Kohli and director Mike Flanagan recently sat down together to play <em>Resident Evil Village<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/KNHWLxwfZOs\">on Netflix\u2019s YouTube channel<\/a>, and during the playthrough, they chat about the craft of directing horror. Both agree that filming horror isn\u2019t scary; in fact, it\u2019s quite the opposite. Flanagan says:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cMaking horror never feels like horror. It feels like comedy\u2026 it\u2019s really fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When discussing creating tension and horror in television versus film, Flanagan says:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cIt\u2019s much harder with television, but much more fun.
