This offers one of the best chances of the year (weather-permitting) to journey outside and view wonders of the night sky.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Messy_Comets_and_Ravenous_Birds\"><\/span>Messy Comets and Ravenous Birds<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Most of the annual meteor showers are the result of the Earth encountering a stream of debris left behind by a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-cosmic-companion\/monster-comet-2014-un271-to-visit-solar-system-in-2031-4e08492c06b5?source=friends_link&amp;sk=b52cecfcfda74f7bf2cd4e670d8dd54d\">passing comet<\/a>. The Perseid meteor shower is no exception to the rule.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/xo23fcyip6?videoFoam=true&amp;autoPlay=true\" title=\"Whats it like to be a startup founder in Barcelona? Video\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" allowfullscreen=\"\" msallowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Perseid meteor shower results when the Earth moves (nay, barges) into the path of debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle as it passes near the orbit of Earth once every 133 years.<\/p>\n<p>This comet, discovered in 1862 by Lewis Swift and Horace Tuttle, is massive \u2014 26 km (16 miles) across \u2014 twice the size of the comet which <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-cosmic-companion\/asteroid-that-killed-dinosaurs-hit-at-worst-possible-angle-ff70f0d611d?source=friends_link&amp;sk=a56172c4b1fcc3f359288ce6e07615b5\">ended the age of the dinosaurs<\/a>. (However, this event did lead, in part, to a race of occasionally-clever mammals who now work for money to buy bird seed, in order to fill the bellies of ravenous winged beings at bird feeders. So who\u2019s the real winner here? This ballyhoo from beyond the Earth is frequently accompanied by fireballs \u2014 dazzlingly bright shooting stars that can stretch far across the sky.<\/p>\n<p>The debris which forms meteors is typically the size of an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>le seed or smaller. If you need a light, red light (available in most flashlight apps) won\u2019t ruin night vision!<\/p>\n<p>The dazzling trail of lights seen are the result of tiny pieces of rock and metal from space burning up as they race through our <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thecosmiccompanion.net\/interview-with-sabine-stanley-of-jhu\/\">atmosphere<\/a>, entering at over 212,000 kilometers per hour (133,000 MPH).<\/p>\n<p>There is a famous (although erroneous) quote usually attributed to Thomas Jefferson: \u201c\u2026it was easier to believe that two Yankee Professors could lie than to admit that stones could fall from heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Research by Anna Berkes, research librarian at Monticello finds, however, the actual quote of the third President (from a letter) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/meteorites.com.au\/favourite\/december2007.html\">reads as follows<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201c[W]here facts are suggested, bearing no analogy with the laws of nature as yet known to us, their verity needs proofs proportioned to their difficulty\u2026 It may be very difficult to explain how the stone you possess came into the position in which it was found.
