In his latest offhand remark about the market\u2019s second-largest cryptocurrency, Dorsey downplayed the platform\u2019s potential to\u00a0single-handedly shake up the status quo in Big Tech: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Disrupting \u201cBig Tech\u201d is exactly what\u2019s needed and what I want.<\/p>\n<p>No one <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> alone will do that though.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 jack\u26a1\ufe0f (@jack) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1425926717663809539?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 12, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>Dorsey\u2019s comment followed an online discussion of the usefulness of a full-blown integration of nonfungible tokens (NFT) into Twitter, which Twitter user Seyitaylor argued would be more to the benefit of Ethereum than to the social media site.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dorsey agreed that such a move would be more consequential for the Ethereum ecosystem than for his own platform but <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1425893910728036359?s=20\">added<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cEvery account on Twitter being able to link to a Lightning wallet however\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite Twitter\u2019s previous dabbles in the world of NFTs\u00a0\u2014 and Dorsey\u2019s own use of the technology to raise money for charity\u00a0\u2014 Dorsey has remained a staunch Bitcoin advocate, much to the frustration of both Ether diehards and less sectarian crypto fans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When one Twitter user\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FranBoll11\/status\/1425928701586382853?s=20\">responded<\/a> to Dorsey\u2019s comments, pushing him to explain, \u201cWhy the ETH hate then if there\u2019s room for more than one piece to the puzzle?\u201d Dorsey\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1425966622771191811?s=20\">rejoinder<\/a> was that \u201cfocus on one thing isn\u2019t hate of the others. I\u2019ve made my concerns known about others in comparison to Bitcoin. Key ones are founding principles, security, and centralization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related: No, Jack Dorsey isn&#8217;t trolling ETH by making its logo the Ethiopian flag<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In another Twitter thread, Garry Tan probed the \u201cmystery\u201d of Dorsey\u2019s single-minded preoccupation with Bitcoin, which Timothy Kim <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/timothy_skim\/status\/1425937464829513733?s=20\">proposed<\/a> was the veteran crypto\u2019s promise to serve as \u201csound money,\u201d which he claimed was \u201ccritical,\u201d \u201cespecially for the globally underprivileged.\u201d Dorsey joined the discussion to agree, asserting that he\u2019s in Bitcoin \u201cto help fix the money,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1425997832201424911?s=20\">adding<\/a> he was \u201cnot trolling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In yet another thread circling the same <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a>, Dorsey <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1425969744256065543?s=20\">rebuffed<\/a> claims he was intentionally throwing shade at Ethereum and clarified that for him, \u201cdecentralization isn\u2019t an end goal [&#8230;] it\u2019s just one method of fixing the money.\u201d Elsewhere on Twitter, Dorsey said that while he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1425992128602288129?s=20\">agrees<\/a> with the spirit of NFTs, his advocacy of Lightning in this context had nothing to do with them but <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/1425992534619299845?s=20\">rather<\/a> with \u201cenabl[ing] a currency for the internet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This has been a long-time motto of Dorsey\u2019s, who has repeatedly argued that Bitcoin will be the sole currency of the internet since at least 2018.
