Today, we\u2019re watching a video essay on three films that tell the story of Joe Dante\u2019s struggle with big studio films.&lt;\/em&gt;\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<hr\/>\n<p>It\u2019s something of a truism that the vast majority of \u201cproduction nightmares\u201d boil down to power struggles over who, exactly, has creative control. We\u2019re talking behind-the-scenes legends that sublimate into book deals, documentaries, and myth itself. Like Wener Herzog pointing a gun at Klaus Kinski on the set of <em>Aguirre, the Wrath of God<\/em>. Or untethered projects like\u00a0<em>Cleopatra, <\/em><em>Ishtar<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Heaven\u2019s Gate\u00a0<\/em>spiraling out of financial control.<\/p>\n<p>Studios care about a film\u2019s marketability and this is not always true of directors. The results of this tension can be disastrous, but we\u2019ve all heard those horror stories before. What\u2019s more interesting is a slightly more nuanced narrative: a collection of one particular auteur\u2019s experiences with studio filmmaking, and what they taught him.<\/p>\n<p>The following video essay takes a look at three studio films directed by the genius genre <strong>Joe Dante<\/strong>. While Dante\u2019s early films emerged out of the energetic \u201cget it done\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach of Roger Corman, his later experiences with studios were less than straightforward. The essay takes a look at the hybrid live-action animated feature <em><strong>Looney Tunes: Back in Action<\/strong><\/em> (2003), the sci-fi coming-of-age flick <strong><em>Explorers <\/em><\/strong>(1985), and the marvelously chaotic blank check that is <strong><em>Gremlins 2: The New Batch <\/em><\/strong>(1990). In the essay, each segment parallels the three parts of Dante Alighieri\u2019s\u00a0<em>Divine Comedy<\/em> (Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise, respectively).
