Ollis, now at Caddell Dry Dock on Staten Island, will dazzle even hardened commuters when it starts service in the fall.<\/p>\n<p>The ship is the first of three new vessels in the Staten Island Ollis Class Ferries <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>. It cost the city a reported $309 million and features a \u00a0 \u00a0walking track, more comfortable seating and charging stations galore.<\/p>\n<p>The ferry is named after one of the borough\u2019s own sons, Army Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis, a New Dorp, SI, native who was 24 years old when he was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in 2013. They\u2019ve been kept in the loop during the whole process and are hoping for a private tour.<\/p>\n<p>Their one request is in the works: for his picture and story to be displayed on the ferry. Michael has been honored by the Polish government with its highest military award, the Polish Gold Star Medal of Honor, as well as the Afghani Star. (The ferries carry 22 million passengers annually for free.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a lot of time, money and energy spent towards making sure these were very technologically advanced and environmentally- and ergonomically-friendly ferries,\u201d said Joey D\u2019Isernia, President of Eastern Shipbuilding Group of the fleet. He also noted that the fleet\u2019s signature bright orange paint job is still intact.<\/p>\n<p>Several SI ferry captains trekked down to Panama City, Fla., to check out the new fleet.<br \/>\u201cThe captains came down here and they were blown away, saying, \u2018People are going to be so excited when they get on these,\u2019\u201d recalled D\u2019Isernia. One even remarked to him, \u201cIt\u2019s like driving a spaceship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Passengers are in for a treat, too. \u201cThey\u2019ll notice a much higher level of fit, finish, amenities and ergonomics,\u201d said D\u2019Isernia. \u201cNoise and vibration will be at a minimum. There\u2019s a higher level of comfort and amenities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NYC could use some hope right now and the new ferry couldn\u2019t come at a better time.
