{"id":324783,"date":"2021-08-14T20:22:26","date_gmt":"2021-08-14T17:22:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/a-matter-of-time-until-another-9-11-warn-experts-citing-airport-security\/"},"modified":"2021-08-14T20:22:26","modified_gmt":"2021-08-14T17:22:26","slug":"a-matter-of-time-until-another-9-11-warn-experts-citing-airport-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/a-matter-of-time-until-another-9-11-warn-experts-citing-airport-security\/","title":{"rendered":"#&#8217;A matter of time until another 9\/11&#8242; warn experts citing airport security"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#&#8217;A matter of time until another 9\/11&#8242; warn experts citing airport security<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>When former TSA undercover agents learned that a passenger with a loaded handgun breezed past scanners at Atlanta\u2019s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport and boarded a flight to Tokyo in 2019, they were not surprised.<\/p>\n<p>They had done the same thing on a regular basis, posing as potential terrorists with fake guns and bombs to test security \u2014 and getting waved through disturbingly often, they told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>The Tokyo-bound gunslinger didn\u2019t turn out to be a threat, they said, but\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/garystoller\/2017\/08\/15\/alarming-airport-security-holes-might-another-911-type-attack-be-coming\/?sh=2392c91a44e9\">agents pointed to leaked data from TSA in 2015 and 2017<\/a>\u00a0showing that attempts by their \u201cRed Team\u201d of covert agents to smuggle in weapons, explosives and banned objects succeeded sometimes up to 95 percent of the time.<\/p>\n<p>And they said this could mean another 9\/11 is possible, a warning that came as the Department of Homeland Security\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/lifestyle-religion-race-and-ethnicity-bfde115ff5407b2e2042c8108f8ca270\">issued a bulletin Friday<\/a>\u00a0saying the 9\/11 20th anniversary could spur extremist violence. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe TSA didn\u2019t learn from what h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened before,\u201d said former FAA Special Agent Brian Sullivan, telling The Post security failures exposed by the agency since then have opened the door to another.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/brian-sullivan-former-faa-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Brian Sullivan\" class=\"wp-image-19132628\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/brian-sullivan-former-faa-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/brian-sullivan-former-faa-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/brian-sullivan-former-faa-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>\u201cThe TSA didn\u2019t learn from what happened before,\u201d said former FAA Special Agent Brian Sullivan.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">David McGlynn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re making the same mistakes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His concern was seconded by ex-FAA and TSA Red Team leader Bogdan Dzakovic, who used to strap functional, hard-resin plastic guns to his ankle and tape fake explosives to his back \u2014 and got past airport security multiple times in the late 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe basically got by them most of the time,\u201d Dzakovic, now 67, told The Post from his home in Ohio. \u201cEveryone knew how weak the system was. We knew something like 9\/11 was going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dzakovic, who testified before Congress after the Sept. 11 terror attack about his work, and how his concerns were brushed aside, believes a similar event could happen again. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a matter of time until we get hit again just like we did on 9\/11,\u201d Dzakovic said. \u201cWe don\u2019t do jacks\u2013t until someone gets killed. And the White House only cares about white supremacists now. It\u2019s ludicrous.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/Bogdan-Dzakovic.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Bogdan Dzakovic\" class=\"wp-image-19132672\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/Bogdan-Dzakovic.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/Bogdan-Dzakovic.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/Bogdan-Dzakovic.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>\u201cWe knew something like 9\/11 was going to happen,\u201d Bogdan Dzakovic told The Post.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Julian M Foglietti<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In fact, one of the most recent\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/products\/gao-19-374\">Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports<\/a>\u00a0about the state of TSA covert testing stated that \u201cthis process has not yet resolved any identified security vulnerabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One high-ranking current TSA official said the huge reduction in air <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> during the pandemic allowed agents to spend extra time checking bags and patting down passengers, and led to an increase in weapons being found and confiscated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe lost half our passengers, but as a result everything slowed down and more checks were done,\u201d said the official, who asked not to be identified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe firearm detection rate went up 200 percent last year. What that meant was we were sacrificing speed for security up until then. You get fined $500 tops,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe TSA is a 70,000-person bureaucracy that cares more about making sure I don\u2019t carry more than three ounces of Grecian Formula than they are in preventing or anticipating the next terrorist attack,\u201d said Mike Boyd, an aviation consultant with 40 years of experience. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bosses care about politics, not people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boyd worries about screening lapses involving cargo handling and food-service providers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one\u2019s checking,\u201d Boyd said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere may be another 9\/11 but it won\u2019t necessarily look like 9\/11,\u201d he said. \u201cYou need to be looking at cargo, the catering trucks, where the fuel is coming from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mary Schiavo, an aviation security expert and the former Inspector <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> of the Dept. of Transportation \u2014 which\u00a0oversaw the FAA in the 1990s \u2014 said a big concern is the threat of unmanned drones or electromagnetic pulse weapons to disrupt cockpit operations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-nypost-medium-post\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"322\" height=\"483\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/richard-reid-shoe-bomber.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=322\" alt=\"Richard Reid aka the &quot;shoe bomber.&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-19132648\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/richard-reid-shoe-bomber.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=644 644w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/richard-reid-shoe-bomber.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=483 483w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/richard-reid-shoe-bomber.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=322 322w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/richard-reid-shoe-bomber.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=161 161w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/richard-reid-shoe-bomber.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 322px) 100vw, 322px\"\/><figcaption>Richard Reid aka the \u201cshoe bomber.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP Photo\/Plymouth County Jail<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe TSA needs very smart young people savvy about artificial intelligence who understand this new <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> and can get out in front of it to stop terrorists,\u201d she said. \u201cBut my experience with the TSA is they\u2019re reactive, not proactive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One simple fix that hasn\u2019t been adopted involves installing an extra barrier between the cockpit and passenger cabin,\u00a0a proposal that airlines have lobbied against.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor 20 years we\u2019ve been waiting for that secondary barrier,\u201d Sullivan said.<\/p>\n<p>All while insiders have become alarmed over the potential of terrorism from Afghanistan, which some say has been downplayed under President Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m worried we\u2019ve taken our eyes off overseas terrorism when we need to be focusing on it most,\u201d former U.S. Rep. Peter King (R-NY) told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur presence in Afghanistan meant we had eyes and ears on Pakistan which has nuclear weapons that we need to monitor carefully.
