{"id":324962,"date":"2021-08-15T18:59:47","date_gmt":"2021-08-15T15:59:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/family-warns-of-delta-variant-after-12-year-old-hospitalized\/"},"modified":"2021-08-15T18:59:47","modified_gmt":"2021-08-15T15:59:47","slug":"family-warns-of-delta-variant-after-12-year-old-hospitalized","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/family-warns-of-delta-variant-after-12-year-old-hospitalized\/","title":{"rendered":"#Family warns of Delta variant after 12-year-old hospitalized"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Family warns of Delta variant after 12-year-old hospitalized<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>An Alabama family is warning others to take the latest COVID-19 outbreak seriously after the Delta variant left their 12-year-old hospitalized and unable to breathe.<\/p>\n<p>Seventh-grader Brody Barnett picked up the deadly bug Aug. 6 after visiting a friend who was sick with the virus, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/breathe-family-speaks-boy-12-hospitalized-covid-19\/story?id=79419487\">ABC News said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After quickly developing a cough and trouble breathing, the boy landed in the hospital with COVID pneumonia, calling the ordeal a \u201cscary experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt ain\u2019t nothing to joke with,\u201d said Brody, whose doctor said he had symptoms consistent with the Delta variant.<\/p>\n<p>His mother, GeriLynn Vowell, said her son was proof that \u201ckids do get sick and [the virus] is real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not out to condemn or condone or any of the political side of it,\u201d Vowell said. \u201cI just want to make other mamas and parents aware that it is real for kids and kids do get sick and it\u2019s a scary thing when they do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brody, who was not vaccinated, struggled to breathe after being admitted to Children\u2019s of Alabama hospital.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/covid-028.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"A nurse with a syringe with the COVID-19 vaccine in it\" class=\"wp-image-19137744\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/covid-028.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/covid-028.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/covid-028.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The Delta variant of COVID-19 has been spreading across the United States.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">ROBYN BECK\/AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt was scary,\u201d Vowell said. \u201cThe doctor said there\u2019s nothing we can do other than Tylenol or Motrin to treat symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was like, \u2018I cannot breathe, I cannot take a breath,&#8217;\u201d she said. \u201cHe couldn\u2019t raise his arms over his head and take a breath.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the hospital wing had \u201cprobably a dozen kids or more\u201d with the virus.<\/p>\n<p>Vowell said her son is now recuperating but still suffers shortness of breath and has \u201cbig coughing spells,\u201d with his nights \u201cstill pretty rough,\u201d she told the outlet.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>She said she and her husband were not vaccinated because they previously tested positive for antibodies, saying \u201cwe had just kind of been waiting to be vaccinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recent weeks have seen a resurgence of the coronavirus that has killed more than 600,000 Americans since the outbreak of the pandemic \u2014 with the more contagious Delta variant spreading through the country.<\/p>\n<p>The variant has hit hardest in states with low vaccination rates and is now infecting a younger population as well.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aap.org\/en\/pages\/2019-novel-coronavirus-covid-19-infections\/children-and-covid-19-state-level-data-report\/\">American Academy of Pediatrics<\/a> and the Children\u2019s Hospital Association, nearly 94,000 children were infected in the week ending Aug. 5 \u2014 or roughly 15 percent of all cases across the US.<\/p>\n<p>Children under 12 are not eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
