A 51-year-old man was attacked by a hatchet-wielding maniac in the ATM vestibule of a Lower Manhattan bank on Sunday night, police sources said.<\/p>\n

The male suspect whacked the victim in the head and thigh as he was standing in front of the cash machine at a Chase bank on Broadway near Beaver Street in the Financial District at about 5:20 p.m., sources said.<\/p>\n

The brute fled the scene after the attack, but left the hatchet behind, according to the sources. He was still being sought late Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guy that got hit in the head was screaming,\u201d a witness told The Post. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s crazy. People were shouting and we saw the guy laying down \u2014 a lot of blood,\u201d the witness said.<\/p>\n

The victim was hospitalized in stable condition.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
